Can anyone tell Me about The REAL Col. Jeff Cooper ?

Just came upon this thread. I wouldn't argue with a single observation made by those who have met Jeff Cooper. He's a brilliant, well educated, independent, multifaceted man who has lived 8 decades. He is openminded yet bullheaded; direct but subtle; patient though curmudgeonly; boastful and self effacing...in short, he's quite human. Janelle is everything that has been described and more. Both have been quite kind to me.

I don't believe Cooper expects anyone to agree with all of his pronouncements. He values independence of thought above all things and wishes others to pursue excellence. I don't happen to agree with Colonel Cooper on certain issues, particularly the design (design flaws?) of the Steyr Scout or the idealization of the .308 for African plains game. But, last time I checked, he was hardly "holding a gun to my head". ;)

Seems if his opinion of the .25 acp is this. If you were ever forced to shoot anyone with a .25 acp----and he ever found out about it, he would really be mad!

Whittington Center is only a few hours from here. May be next year I will get the bread in time to reserve a space in one of the three classes that he teaches there annually

I agree with every positive thing said about the Col. but I am still stymied over his pushing of the whole "Scout" concept. Why in the heck would any person in a military context (except a sniper) want to get caught with a bolt action rifle? That's what Car-15s are for.

Cooper no longer teaches Rich Wyatt's courses at Whittington since his return to Gunsite in 2000. Perhaps that'll change next year, but I wouldn't bet on it.
