Can Anyone Identify the Make & Model of this 30-06 for Me?

1903 Springfield

That's a Springfield I have the Smith-Corona 03-A3 great history behind these rifles. Mine was stamped in March,1943. Right behind the front sight.

I would say by the S/N that it's a Remington 03-A3 built between 1942 and 1944 . That 3,7XX,XXX was a Remington block I believe .

For $250 you can't go too wrong in any case, last gun show I went had A3 sporters going for $300 and up (was looking to price one we had on the table). Unless it shoots horribly, but you never can tell about that with any gun you don't get to fire beforehand.

oneoldsap is absolutely correct - the OP's rifle is NOT a 1903 US Springfield, or a "low-numbered" Springfield.

It is definitely a "sporterized" US Springfield 1903-A3 Rifle, with the manufacturer's name stamped into the front receiver ring under the scope mount ( Smith-Corona, etc) - as witnessed by the US Springfield bolt cocking knob, stamped bottom metal, and male sight dovetail atop the rear receiver bridge for mounting the 03A3's issue peep sight.
The dovetail's hard to see in the pic, and might have been ground down to allow the rear scope base to be fitted, but most base sets have a thinner rear to allow for the issue dovetail as is.

They are hell-for-strong rifles, w/o issues, and will take any ammo you can chamber - as long as the headspace's OK.

It's easily worth the $250, IMHO

.

I called the guy and told him to go ahead and bring it to my house (he offered to bring it to me), and that I would purchase it as long as I found no mechanical defects, and the bore looked good. He is bringing it over on Saturday. If I buy it, I'll probably remove the scope and mounts to see what is stamped underneath. I'll post some pictures.

I know its Sporterized, but thats one of the Greatest Rifles ever built in my honest opinion.
If you dont want it, I will pay the $250 for it.

All, I did not turn down the rifle because I saw some defect...If fact I never even got to see the rifle...I changed my mind about swapping another gun that I own for it. From what I gather from emailing back and forth with the owner, it's probably a really good deal for somebody.
