Can A Convicted Felon Hunt In Cali?

A friend of mine's dad is a convicted fellon, and would love to hunt with us. I know he can't own a firearm, but can he get a hunting license and hunt? Thanks.

Probably technically no, but unless the hunting license application asks you probably can. Get an application and see what it says. It's really easy to get a hunting license here, just pay the money, no questions. I've never heard of a game warden asking if people were in lawful posession of firearms. Alot of states will allow felons to be in posession of black powder arms. Many states have laws on firearms rights and restoration. If it's a white collar crime it's easier to get them back (or they may not even be lost). Then there are the federal laws. I know someone who hunts regularlary that was court martialed and he hasn't had an issues.

Who doesn't consider muzzleloaders firearms and why?

As for your friend's dad, the only way he is going to be able to hunt with the least amount of headache I think would be with a bow and arrow.

Damage inc,I believe in most,if not all, states he not only cannot own a firearm,he cannot POSSESS one. This would be translated to mean if he picks up your latest purchase to admire it,he is breaking the law.I'd guess California would be one place where that would be the most strictly interpreted, too. His best bet is to consult with an attorney about getting the felony off his record...

Bow hunting

Check your laws carefully. I was camping in a state park one time, and was told by a ranger that I would have to put my bow away as it was considered a firearm. Safety was not an issue, as I was shooting my own target in a safe manner. I don't know whether he was right in his interpretation of the law, but I didn't want to argue the point.

Not grasping the concept

"Damage inc,I believe in most,if not all, states he not only cannot own a firearm,he cannot POSSESS one."

What part of "FEDERAL law" do you not comprehend?

In case you slept through civics, Federal law trumps state law whenever the two conflict.

And FEDERAL law says felons cannot have firearms. Period.

I may be wrong, someone who is more knowledgable on the subject should probably jump in and eigther back me up or correct me. But it is my understanding that the BATFE does not classify a blackpowder as a firearm. which is why you can send them through the mail without a FFL and why you can buy them without background checks. Not sure if Kali would have their own laws about this. I suppose if you have to spend 5 minutes for each shot, then heavily armed government agencies don't see you as a threat.

what part of Convicted Felon don't you get?
He's a bad guy.

Yeah. Like the kid across the street. He's even on the sex offender list.

Got caught with his underage girlfriend.

They're married now. Just had their second kid last week.

He's really a bad guy. Really bad!

There be felons and there be Felons.

You are correct, there is no distinction in the federal code. That of course makes it right.

Nor do I think the kid across the street should be a felon and be so marked the rest of his life. His "victim" certainly doesn't think so.

Do show us that distinction in the Federal code.

Wow, you're right. Anyone who ever does anything Big Brother doesn't like is a bad, bad, naughty person who should have their rights confiscated, no matter the circumstances!

Man, sometimes I wonder, with Americans like this, what do we need the UN for?

Exactly, Don and Phetro are right. What if the law says you can own no firearms, and makes YOU a felon for doing so? Does that make it right/constitutional? some of our ridiculous laws are the same way. No, like the man said, there be felons and there be felons.

I tried to get an answer to this recently on TFL, with no luck:

For all you apologists,

DO tell us how sexual intercourse with a minor is:

1. Constitutionally protected; and/or

2. Beneficial to society.

And spare us the drivel about how they are now married. There are still cultures which force a girl to marry her rapist to protect "family honor." :barf:

Try thinking with the big head instead of the little one........

Number6, why are you so hostile about this? Do you really think that ALL persons who have ever been convicted of a crime are villians? I have the feeling Airforceshooter was just being an @$$ to get a responce from people, but you are actually defending this.

It seems like no matter what a person asks in these forums, there is always someone who wants to drown out the subject with his/her own etremists veiws on moral. Which would be fine except that the same person who starts these debates is always the one who REFUSES to try and understand the other persons arguement. Maybe the moderators should set aside a seperate forum for people who just want to spout off their own crap without listening to others, so that these people don't interfere with the rest of us who actually veiw this forum as a chance to learn and share knowledge.

Grasp the concept

"It seems like no matter what a person asks in these forums, there is always someone who wants to drown out the subject with his/her own etremists [sic] veiws [sic] on moral [ity]."

I stated fact. It is illegal under Federal, not to mention state, law for a convicted felon to possess, or even handle, a firearm. Whether you or anyone else likes that fact is irrelevant. Period.

That answers the assinine "hunting in California" question which began this thread, unless the would-be hunter plans on using a bow, axalatl or rock.

"Maybe the moderators should set aside a seperate [sic] forum for people who just want to spout off their own crap without listening to others, so that these people don't interfere with the rest of us who actually veiw [sic] this forum as a chance to learn and share knowledge."

Do it. As you are the one ignoring the fact that answers the question to defend diverting the thread into whether felons should be armed, you would seem to be the problem you now complain of.
