Came to a realization this morning

I couldn't help but notice that your initial list included one .40 (the Glock 27) in a list of 9 mm and .38 caliber handguns. The G26 is the same size as the G27 and holds one more round, if it matters. Nothing wrong with .40, but there isn't anything wrong with 9 mm either - just to keep it apples to apples.

I have a G26 and it is a little thick and heavy for pocket carry. I do it occasionally, but not regularly. I find that I need a decent belt for pocket carry to keep my britches from going cattywhompus.

The problem you are going to have is that pistols and revolvers that are light enough to not drag your pants down on one side without a belt are unlikely to be much fun to shoot a lot at the range. I had a S&W 642 for many years, and finally got rid of it, in part because I hated practicing with it.

You might want to check out the Beretta Nano as it comes out in the next couple of weeks. Six round magazine, noticeably thinner than a G26, but otherwise about the same size. A couple of ounces lighter unloaded. Might be a competitive choice soon.

I love my Glock 27, but it isn't that great for "ultra caual carry."

I'm fat, I have big pants with big pockets, even for me it is not a pocket gun.

In sweats the weight along would leave my pants around my anckles.

I also feel that evey gun should really be in some sort of holster, esp Glocks.

There are very cheap, soft pocket holsters that will do the job and still be very light and comfortable.

I think a KelTec P32 would serve you well. Small gun, small caliber, light weight. Poly frame doesn't care about rust. Good price.

I also have a 32 guardian frm NAA. Way too heavy, very too expensive. But it might be ok for your needs.

I have about 3 guns in my CCW line up depending on where I'm going and what I'm wearing. Keltec 32, Colt Agent 38, Glock 27.

Best wishes
Joe

When I can I carry a Glock 23, but it is not a pocket gun, and its subcompact version, the 27 is just as thick and not much lighter. Great pistols, though. When I can't pack the Glock, I drop a Keltec P32 in my pocket. Yeah, mouse gun, but 8 rounds of Buffalo Bore (75 grain hard cast @950) is sure better than a stick.

I have a Kahr Arms P 380 for cc. Awesome shooting little pistol. Really accurate for it's cause and very small. I carry it in a front pocket holser most of the time and have a leather Cell phone looking case with a snap button that I had made at the local leather shop that is for wearing on your belt. Quick and easy to get to but still concealed. I just dont use it that much cause I carry a cell phone and really don't like something on both hips.

Came to a realization this morning
while taking the dog for a two mile walk around the neighborhood on a brisk morning. I was dressed in sweatpants, a T-shirt, and a flannel jacket. I do NOT want to wear a holster while dressed like this

The problem of carrying a handgun in a pocket of a loose fitting stretchy garment is that the gun will move due to momentum, a great deal because of its mass.

Try putting a pound and a half of coins in your flannel jacket pocket, walk briskly and see. Before you start to move, the pocket will be noticeably pulled down by the weight.

Gun belts and holsters were invented to solve this sort of problem.

If you got deep pockets, you can get small, light and powerful with a S&W M&P 340CT. It will rock your boat when you practice with it using .357 magnum rounds. It does mine anyway. Yes the 5 rounds is a limitation. Extra ammo, larger caliber, longer barrel ... all these come at bigger size and/or more weight. As with most things in life, it is a trade off.

Good luck with your quest. It will be interesting what you end up with.

If you want some thing bigger than a small 32 or 380, you might give a fanny pack some consideration. Find one that is just a regular pack ( not made specially for gun carry)This will allow you to carry some thing like a Glock 19 or simulate sized gun.

While I can carry a P32 in the pocket, I can carry a Kahr CW 40 easily in a fanny pack and not look out of place. Also after a life time of looking for the one do all perfect hand gun, I am still looking. :D

This is true. The squarish back of the G26 also tries to snag coming out of some pockets.

I have the P380 & the PM9. Both are great guns, reliable & very accurate @ defensive distances. I don't pocket carry, but I know many guys who do with either of these guns. A belt & good holster covered by a shirt & you will hardly know it's there.:D

I have a Glock 26 that I really like. Its awesome and can even be carried in a Smartcarry holster easily in your attire. I do find it a little heavy for standard pocket carry. I had a Keltec P32 great little gun for what it was. I could easily clip it to my waistband and it was 100% reliable. I then went to a 642 38 sp for pocket carry. I will admit though I really liked it I found recoil in the more potent loads a little much. Currently I have a Kahr CM9. I find it easy to carry quick to reload, accurate and shootable. I also find the 9mm ammo cheaper to buy therefore cheaper to practice with. Whatever you choose. I prefer to have a holster for any pocket pistol.

I am a Kool-aid drinking P238 lover. I carry mine every day and practice with it whenever I can - it's a hoot to shoot and easy to conceal. Accurate too.

However... I have to concur with Mello2u about stretchy clothing. While the size of the P238 would certainly allow pocket carry, the weight (the part that makes it fun to shoot!) would be a liability - his comparison to a big pile of coins is accurate. Sweats are just not gun-friendly without a holster of some kind. If your flannel jacket is somewhat less stretchy and doesn't flap around, then you might put a gun in one of those pockets. That's what I would do if I wasn't wearing real pants.

Another thing - if you're going to pocket-carry, ESPECIALLY if you're going to pocket-carry a Glock, PLEASE use a pocket holster. People are going to whine about the single-action of the P238, but such fears usually come from those who don't have one... the safety action on the P238 is VERY positive. I would still recommend a pocket holster for the P238 anyway. A Glock or similar safetyless striker-fired weapon has a lighter trigger pull and no way to secure the trigger... you've GOT to have a holster for those, or you'll find holes in your body where you'd rather not have them.
