Calling all Savage lovers - question on rings/rail

The Leupold bases I got for the Mark 4 are 2 piece... I don't think they had a 1 piece in that line...

From what I can see the lapping is required to get spot on levelling, so I'll play it by ear and see how well the 2 bars line up when I get the bases screwed in.

The website I was going to get the rifle from has just listed it out of stock of course,so I need to do some more digging today to find a site that has it in stock and is reputable. Cheapasdirt has come up in past posts but they're listing it out of stock too...

Common advice is to go as low with rings as you can.

BUT , there are other factors to consider , most important is shooter COMFORT! Yer not gonna be accurate if yer fidgiting around on the stock trying to get comfortable. Shooter size , build , arm length , neck height , facial construction (high/low cheekbones).

And the stock. High or low comb?

When I went to a B&C Varminter Medallist stock on my Savage 10FP , I had to got up on my rings since the comb of the stock was higher that the original Savage stock.

I too went with EGW one-piece Picatinney rail and Burris Xtreme rings.

Yep, the alignment bars will answer this for you.

My guess is that you'll be OK. These rings are really well made. If you have an alignment problem, it will more likely be due to the alignment of the holes in the receiver. If you do decide to lap after all, don't worry. It's a really easy procedure. Just lap the lower rings, go slow and check alignment frequently. I'd bet a beer you'll be good to go without lapping though.
