California Warning

The little fishing lure warnings...."This device contains a chemical known to cause cancer in the state of California."

Do they think we are going to eat it?????? I didn't know that lead could cause cancer, but that is what they are talking about. Do you think that's their problem with guns? The lead bullets? Again...we are not going to eat'em.

And why is it that you only get cancer if you eat the fishing lure in CA?

badoom boom.....Thank you, thank you...I'll be here all week.

No - now why would you interpret my comment that way?
As Rich pointed out, some people don't think twice about having guns visible in their cars. The only reason I can think of for the compulsion to put guns in the trunk is a disgusting array of state laws banning any other method of transporting firearms.

Even if someone is aware of a law banning certain types of weapons, isn't it still reasonable to put those weapons in the passenger compartment?

Although he wouldn't have gotten arrested if he had put the gun in his trunk, maybe he felt that he shouldn't have to hide from an unjust law. I'm certainly not going to gloss over the consequent rights violations -- committed by the arresting officer and by the California courts -- just so I can bash him for not hiding his contraband.

Leaving guns unattended and visible inside a vehicle is another matter, but he was pulled over, meaning he was in the car with the gun.

tyme, you're certainly going to get no argument from me regarding the following:

I thought it was clear I was not discussing the law.

Furthermore, I'm certainly not bashing... (bolding mine)

In my estimation, no it's not...

What if you have to stop at a gas station? Do you think it's a good idea to pull up to the store, pull the AR out in plain view so everyone can see what your placing in your trunk?

It's a passenger compartment. Beyond that, it's contents are discernible to all, including those who would like to filch my chattels.

I could be talking about an AR-15, or my overnight bag full of clothes and other items of worth. Any item of value goes into the trunk. It’s the way I do it. It’s not for everyone I presume.

While there are those who do not think twice about riding around with costly items in plain view; there are those like myself who take that extra preventative measure of placing those items in a more secure location.

Trip-
I live in Florida.
A 30-30 lever gun lives in my passenger compartment. Why? Because I can. Why else? Because it's a damn SUV....it's ALL "Passenger Compartment"....same with pickups. Not everyone has a "trunk". Now, I'll confess....when I stop at the bank, I don't take the rifle in with me "for safekeeping"; when I go to the Town Meeting, I honesty don't check it in at the next-door PD first.

OTOH, SOME people with firearms "secured" in their trunks have neither alarm systems nor LoJack; some don't even have OnSat!!!! Irresponsible jerks.

Call me stoopid; call me irresponsible. But the fact of the matter is that I'm not gonna take responsibility for every criminal who may commit a criminal act against my vehicle.
"Well, don't you feel 'responsible' that a criminal is now armed."
"Not unless you feel 'responsible' that millions of them are armed due to your silly spouting of your rights under the Second Amendment". ;)

See where the argument goes? Either you believe the firearm is the criminal or the perp using it is.
Rich

Oh, Rich. You must think I'm going on and on about keeping firearms out of sight because to do otherwise would be irresponsible, and thus you should be caned for putting firearms where criminals can get them.

No. It's simpler than that. Which is why I also brought other items into the equation:

Personally, I could give a rat’s rear-end about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, unless they’re my guns. I'm selfish. I'm more concerned about keeping my hard earned dollars out of the hands of criminals (which are now lying in the form of an AR-15, or my Movado, slacks, and shirts).

Lets pretend we're at a big-screen tv forum. I wouldn't leave a 56" flat panel in my back seat while running errands. Get it?

Ah, forget it, you win I lose…
