California Approved Handguns?

Are you allowed to bring guns that you already own into the state if they are not on the list? From what I've read the the list only restricts the selling of the non-approved guns. Can you bring these guns into the state as long as you don't sell them?

What is the deal?

The California roster only applies to HANDGUNS SOLD BY DEALERS to most people

You can bring almost any handgun into California.

You can sell almost any handgun to a dealer or a private party (non FFL).

You can buy almost any handgun from a private party (non FFL).

Any sale of a handgun between private parties must be facilitated by an FFL.

You can bring greater than 10 round magazines into California only if disassembled.

You can not assemble greater than 10 round magazines in the state unless they are blocked from taking more than 10 rounds.

There are some handguns that are considered as "assault weapons" that can not be imported into California.

How refreshing to read informed, accurate replies about gun ownership in Calif. Usually we have to wade through the bellyachers and haters to find a reply that both answers the OP's question and states the facts. Thanks!

Erm, let the bashing begin....

Im pretty sure with a DNA test, finger printing, voice printing, cavity check, 1,000,000 gun liability policy and leg mounted GPS tracking device you may be able to have a sling shot so long as there is no stone in any of your pockets. :(

Ok maybe its not quite this bad but its not to far off it.... Kalfornia

And, there it is.....

Don't look now, but your ignorance is showing. Do your homework and then come on back and we'll talk.

The facts arent too far off what I have written, ok maybe a little but not much, not much at all...

I have no intent to ever visit or pass through Kalfornia and I avoid all Kalfornia products to the extent that I reasonably can; in a manner of silent protest against the crimes against freedom it tolerates (in my eyes)so although I appreciate your offer to discuss it further it would be pointless but I do appreciate the thought. (You cant tell tone in text and this is not meant to be sarcastic but a simple statment of my feelings on Kalfornia's gun laws and its general overall view of rights and freedoms as I see it.)

The state law says you're to register you're handguns within 30 days of residency. You can do this at a police station. The form is on the Calif. DOJ site. The people who live there and have handguns prior to the registration law don't have to register there's. When I moved from Calif. to Arkansas years ago had I not sold my guns to move I could have brought them back without registering them because they were bought before the registration started. This info, wheather the last sentence sounded sneaky or not, came from a lady I was talking to at the DOJ on the phone. I know Calif. has their problems big time but I still have family there and that's my roots in the desert. I may just move and find a remote place to live and enjoy living out the rest of my years happy there. Appologize for the sentimental moment there. Hope this helps. Richard.

You can have a stone in your pocket, but not the sling-shot.

They might even finger print these days, I don't know.

The gun laws in California are nonsensical. They are in place to make it confusing, intimidating, and a nuisance for a law abiding person to buy guns.

PLEASE, DO NOT GIVE THE POWERS THAT BE IN CALIFORNIA THE SATISFACTION

New York is worse. I'd have to ship all my pistols from a FFL in Wisconsin to a FFL in NY (shipping costs), wait almost a year (paying the FFL to store them), pay about $75 per gun for a paperwork charge, pay $300 one time fee to the state, plus a per gun charge to the state, get fingerprinted, give them 5 references, give them spent casings and a bunch of other BS.

I'm seriously considering not registering them. I'll end up getting more jail time than a pedophile would.

Actually.. those aren't facts at all.

They aren't even based on facts.... at all.

The fact is... those statements are so far from the truth that they either have to be taken as a snarky anti CA bash or just uninformed dribble.

If we Californians stopped buying firearms and boycotted the state by moving we'd be giving in!
Why is it that people that dont live here make it sound like its the armpit of the world?
Why is it some want to boycott Cali and Cali products?

California laws are weird, but that's what weve got.
I for one don't plan on stopping my purchasing of firearms just cause there's a couple of laws on the books hat I don't agree with.

When there's a will, there's a way!

Oh so you are working on changing the Anti-American laws of California?

Well first off it is a terrible place. It is a known and experienced fact that the hard working people of California are out numbered by people who vote for a living.
The weapons laws have made California the ire of America, because they abandoned American values many years ago. So take this to the bank, from a person born and raised in California, it is not the armpit, it is worse

Because California supports anti gun laws

+1000000000000 for Gus Gus

I’m with you..... but wow..... don’t get yourself in trouble on my account......

I was forced under military order to be in Kalifornia several times, a few of those times I had to go off post to purchase items for my unit....

My summary in the most conservative of terms is I have never seen such "unusual" people in all my life and I will leave it at that... It is not my cup of tea... Many people I know discuss it as if it is actually on another planet..... seriously like a whole different planet...

I can’t stand places that I see not honoring the values set forth in our founding documents.... So for me its off my travel list...

You're right, I get to emotional about America and the constitution.
Plus I am in the belly of the beast right now! San Fran.
