calculate muzzle velocity???

All you need to do is shoot groups. Group center should show the drop.

I agree 100% My point is more about the groups them self and how one finds the center or which round may have been a flyer . If your off by a 1/2" total from 100 to 200yds in your measurement . That could change your guesstimate by as much as 200fps

Here are a few of my targets all at 100yds with the same rifle , some easy to find the center others not so much .

10 shot group ,easy to find center

10 shot group , Sure high low is easy to find but what about left to right . I had 2 different groups in the same string .

How about this one , I know by the way I shoot that this group does not represent a tipical group for me and there should be more of a vertical difference .

To me, the 2nd and 3rd groups seem to show a possibility of canting the rifle slightly during the course of fire. It doesn't take much, I've learned via the "hard way". :) Less likely with that design of target, of course, which is why I use it.

I think this thread has been a rather productive discussion. I am going to go to the range today and retest.

I feel as though it is most likely my point of aim was a bit off the small diamond in the center of the target was hard for me to see so today I will be using a slightly larger orange circle that I can see at 200 and do my best to center the crosshairs in it.

Now I do not shoot from a vice or a sled pretty much a bag up front and my hand in the back most of the time so I will take my time and make good shots.

Maybe even take all shots today from a cold bore to eliminate the possibility of verticals stringing due to barrel heat. I will post pictures of 100 and 200 yard groups when I get home tonight

Metal God,

I don't know exactly where the 10 shots went, it'd be easier to tell in person, I assume, but here's the OnTarget analysis.

I do have a canting problem and do have a anti cant level on the rifle . In this case and those groups . It turned out to be loose action screws . I was getting double groups often and learned my front action screw was coming loose after 20 shots or so . I had 2 threads on this issue and with the help of many here at TFL the problem has been corrected .

Problem solved

Ok guys I think I got the problem solved.

With an aiming point easier to see at 200 it seems that my results yesterday were a fluke caused simply by I believe not being able to really see my point of aim any how I was going to fire all shots from cold bore but did not feel I had time so I fired five shots in relatively quick succession.

Result were pretty good three of the shots grouped right together around an inch actually then the fourth and fifth shots really opened things up. To about 3 inches but my first three shots are less than one inch.

I will post a pic after supper.

mavracer

according to federal the bc of the 150 grain fusion bullet is .410

on another note here is my 200 yard target the 5 shots at the bottom half of the target are the 300 wsm fusion.

the group at the top is a savage axis 22-250 i bought a few weeks ago with nosler custom 55 grain factory ammo.

both rifles have a 3-9x40 bushnell on them.

by the way sorry about the patches on the target i like to be able to spot my shots and these targets are expensive so i use them over and over.

Glad it's working out for you . Yes that group did open up quite a bit . At least you know your gtg with the first shot and a couple quick follow up shots . Should be all thats needed :) I may have missed it but what's the brand of rifle of the WSM ?
