Cabela's sees the light, blowout sale on Remington 1858

STEEL FRAME Remington 1858's on sale at Cabela's now, for only $169

why pay more ?

it's about time they got the prices down to a sane level. This is what happens when you hold their face to the fire, and get the facts out there as to the metallurgy, reliability, and quality of these guns- the prices come down. In the past few years, the prices have been quite inflated on BP C-B guns, and the metallurgy issues swept under the rug.

CC you're so full of it it ain't funny. Cabela's puts stuff on sale all the time. The price will go back up. I suppose you think you're solely responsible for the price drop.

I couldn't be more disappointed in not waiting a day to make my purchase.

I just got one of these yesterday at full price.

:(

Well...where are these coupons at, then? Their mail-outs? I hadn't noticed anything in there when I was looking...

HAWGHAGGEN:

you're leaving out a few little facts, and need to take off your blinders

the guns were first discounted from $259 to only $209

now they're $169, as of LAST SATURDAY

there's a difference

the coupons are on the first inside page of their mail out, were just sent out LAST SATURDAY

not "for a while"- it's only been 3 days now.

I don't think we'll see the prices go back up to $259 any time soon, not in this economy- they simply won't sell any at that price

#2, I'm not the only one in this ENTIRE COUNTRY of 300 million people, who is complaining about the prices of these soft repro guns. Look around, quite a few others on the net are hammering the vendors for their inflated prices and low quality- especially on crappy brass frame guns that fall apart in one week, and Colts that get loose arbors.

think this over, put yourself in their shoes- you're importing and selling less-than-perfect handguns that are not properly heat treated- and you're the VP of marketing for Cabela's or some other importer- you start seeing multiple threads on the net discussing the soft metallurgy and defects in these guns- and you have thousands of them in stock

whattya gonna do ? if you do nothing, you may be stuck with the entire lot- and your boss is gonna fire your asz for it, if you lose money on them

believe me, what's posted in these forums, matters- I've sat in the board rooms where these discussions take place, and had to make them myself, in past jobs I've had.

uh, bozo list someone for posting a spring sale, steel frame guns at $90 discount ?

wait and see how low the prices are going to go- you haven't seen anything yet

JARYETZ: you got burned- this is what I've been implying right along, there's not a single BP C-B gun in the "common" patterns worth more than $200- unless it's a Walker, Dragoon, Ruger OA, or cartridge conversion. These vendors got a little greedy selling brass frame guns for $300.

Now a steel frame gun is only $169

If you bought yours at Cabela's, take it back and see if they'll give you a refund on the balance, sometimes they do that, if it's that short a time span.

Whoa whoa, wait a second. How'd we get to $90 all the sudden?

If thats true, the gun I bought would be 129...in which case, I'd be owning another one like...tomorrow.

I don't remember getting that spring savings thing...did they just mail these out?

CC: I got the steel frame for $219, the regular listed price. They probably wouldn't do a refund b/c I already swung some deals because the finish wasn't excellent...nothing I can't re-blue myself, but I talked the price down a little bit because of it...so I guess in reality, I'm not out that much.

My only question (as otherwise, I might be critical of the messenger and part of the message, but I will be nice and not say anything about that here  ), is how does one get the coupon book?

The Doc is out now.

You can actually get this coupon book on their website as well. It should hit most mailboxes today. The sale doesn't start until April 30th. Unfortunately the coupon is only good for stock on hand at the local Cabela's store. And you guessed it, my local Cabela's doesn't have any.

That coupon is for the walk in stores only.
You can sign up on-line to get the Cabela's mailers.
Cabela's always has one or more model C&B revolver on sale, either on-line or in-store. Nothing new about that.

The gun sells regularly for $219.99 without the starter kit and $259.99 with the starter kit.

The gun alone was never at the higher price. They won't go up to $259.99 because they were never at that price. They will go back to the regular price of $219.99 on May 10th.

JarYetz: Print a copy of the ad and take it into the store on April 30th along with your receipt and ask for the difference in price. They may honor it although sales are usually final on guns. The store manager has some discretion on pricing.

I'm not gonna worry about it. Like I said, I already haggled with em anyway. I'm not out that much. If anything, this coupon will be incentive to get another one if they have any in stock. :D

I ordered one yesterday as well, but wanted the 5.5" barrel instead. Just checked the front office and the Brown truck is not here yet.

Thanks for posting the sale Captain, but you're continued ranting on Italian C&B gun metallurgy grows old. Please consider a couple of points:

  1. These guns have been selling at prices the market will bear, else they wouldn't be selling.
  2. The materials used have proven adequate for the purpose. Maybe just barely adequate in some cases, but adequate nonetheless. If this were not true, we'd be seeing kabooms and/or the guns would prove so unreliable, people wouldn't buy them.
  3. The manufacturer's QC, while leaving something to be desired, is adequate. If not they wouldn't be selling guns.

Unfortunately the coupon is only good for stock on hand at the local Cabela's store.

Well, sure was a nice thing to know that from the original poster. :barf: Not having a Cabellas within 4 hours of me, which, after spending the gas money, would make any savings negligable, if at all.

Whoops, probably overlooked that in the 'guns aren't worth it diatribe'.

(I think I am going to get off this forum under my present name and come back as Major Daisy so I can outrank CaptainCrossman. :D)

The Doc is out now.
