Buy, sell or hold? What's your position?

I went to the gun shop Sunday and they still have the colt I put on lay away and I am going to pick it up tomorrow. The guy at the shop told me to pick it up as soon as possible in case a ban on sales is voted in. If they put another ban on will this gun be a pre-ban ?

Back in 2004, I was absolutely convinced that the AWB was going to sunset. It seemed like a minority position at the time... people were just sure Congress would never let it die. In my case, I just believed in the inability of Congress to get both houses to work together and actually pass something. (The same way I feel about the fiscal cliff.) So I decided in 2004 to have some faith in my strong beliefs and act on it. So I took a bunch of my "high capacity" pre-ban magazines to the last Tulsa Gun Show before the ban was due to sunset. And I sold all of them for at least 3x more than I paid for them. Some of them for more like 5X. I realized that if I was wrong, I was going to "lose" these magazines forever so I did retain a basic load for my important guns.

Turned out I really was right and once the ban expired, I replaced all those mags for a heck of a lot less money. I'm tempted to do the same thing right now with magazines and extra ammo but... sooner or later I'm probably going to be wrong!!

^This^ is what I'm hoping for. Figure in the next 3-6 months we should have a firm direction on how things are looking. But there is always the next election just around the corner to make it all crazy again.

If there isn't a Pro Gun Choice in the next election, I'm not voting.

Holding unless I find something that I want for a reasonable price.....

Although I've fired a bunch, I have never owned an AK-variant. Started thinking about one this past summer, but the prices have kept me at bay. Just "visiting" a local shop on Christmas Eve, I saw an impressive display of SIG556 carbines priced at $1,345.00.

Sucked it up and bought one. I'll love it enough to justify the cost, or I'll be able to sell it within a few day's time (at a handsome profit). Guess I'll just have to keep my ear to the ground until we find some details as to what is planned, or 'in the works'.

I would never sell my go to handgun, shotgun, and rifle, but otherwise I am cashing out on all my tactical things. I did the same in 2008. Traded for some very nice hunting/target guns or cash and by 2010 I had everything back plus some more things off the profit.
If I do this every four years I will have everything I dreamed of before 40 and have spent little extra from 2008 on. WHen things calm down I am buying a pallet of Pmags to hold onto.
