Buy, sell or hold? What's your position?

I don't know where prices will most likely go from here. The $1200-$1500 gun I was looking at for 2 years is going for $2000 now. So its either a deal now at $2000 (may go up even) or these prices are temporary until supplies catch up and things cool off politically.

What's your position in the current gun market?

I have a colt match target competition on lay away, I have a month to pick it up. The price is right as I put it on lay away before the big price jumps.
I am trying to decide if I should go get it or way to see what the new ban is going to be.

That sounds like a really nice rifle. It is impossibly difficult to buy in preparation for some new laws unless you buy for every possible scenario...which means you'll pick winners and losers.

@Rebs - I'd go pick up the gun as soon as possible. If the shop has it in stock and holding it, they could be tempted to sell it out from you at a higher price with hopes of replacing later. Just saying....

I am tempted to "cash out" with these current prices and turn what I have into some nice more "genteel" guns.

BUT, I feel like I'd be giving in to fears of future laws and kick myself down the road for selling, especially if I couldn't get them again or the prices never come down or actually keep climbing.

If you looked at it for two years without buying you obviously didn't want it too bad. I certainly wouldn't expect you to buy it at a higher price.

Hold what ya got unless you really don't want them or you really need the money.

Ha. That is true. I don't want to play this game at all. I got in before the crazy run up in prices. Will hold most likely until I have something real to make a decision based upon.

I bought my rifle for very personal reasons. No surge or law will take away what it means to me, how I intend to use it, or why I bought it.
I am too selfish.

It really does not matter much right now. The fact that this will be a long drawn out battle that fact alone will keep driving prices up and up for some time regardless of the outcome or until anti-gun laws are acutually passed . Magazines are the issue with the anti-gun crowd right now and who knows how that will turn out. The second amendment does not protect high capacity mags. I don't think investing in quality rifle right now will hurt you because they never get any cheaper the prices were rising before the Sany Hook incident. They can also stop ammo coming in from other countries I.E. Russia etc. I hope I'm wrong but it seems that guns/ammo/and mags are going to be very expensive over the next few years and I don't see the prices coming down anytime soon.

Hold

In 1984 I bought an HK-91A3 for $599.00 new in a sporting goods store. I held on to it for 2 years and sold it for $500.00. Two years later they went to $2500.00.
I do not want to make that mistake again....
