Bush Submits New Terror Detainee Bill

Marko Kloos
Staff Lead

It's certainly a creative way to win the "War on Terror"...the terrorists "hate our freedom", so the folks in charge are trying to neutralize that anger by taking the axe to that freedom.

Well said ... and sadly enough , true. :(

there will always be issues with any legislation that attempts to handle crime such as terrorism. It is so easy to abridge freedoms, in the effort to combat these persons that will gladly kill us all to reach their Islamo/fascist ends. Still, something has to be in place to try and handle the problem.

> Still, something has to be in place to try and handle the problem.

Agreed, but that 'something' needs to differentiate between babies and bathwater.

(oliver voice)"well stanley..thats another fine mess you've gotten us into"

some of the best well intentioned thoughts turned into the absolute worst decisions.this being one of them.

suspect?wait till some hitlery gets in and uses this abomonation against gun owners to forward the antigunner agenda.its coming.my approval rating just tanked out completly.

what really gets me is what was mentioned in an earlier post about them being serious on fighting terrorism here by closing the borders after the 911 terror attacks.theyd rather do this kinda stuff than close the borders.

And the people defending Bush speak up..

I voted for this guy, I just wish I could go back in time and kick my ass.

After reading the draft proposal, I'm not sure where to begin! I'm not even sure I should be posting this.

The Constitutional violations are numerous and could make anyone the government doesn't like, a suspected terrorist. At that point, every right you think you have is abrogated.

This goes way beyond what the SCOTUS has opined in Hamdan. If this law is passed in any manner that is close to how the draft legislation is written, then we will have a de facto police state. Regardless of any trappings of civil liberties we may think we have.

It worries me that the SCOTUS would in fact, hold up this legislation as proper, valid and Constitutional.

Intellectually, I know I should wait until a proper bill is written and actually being discussed by the Congress, but I am getting a sinking feeling about this.

I keep hearing some of you say that even if the Bush Administration does nothing else, that the next President could use this in a much greater fashion. The so-called gun-grabber President.

Um, folks, does it bother anyone that if this passes, there may not be a next President?

Heist I don't want to sound rude but...

This also goes out to anyone else that voted for Bush... I TOLD YOU SO!! But that's not the point, and that is at this point irrelevant, what matters now is that we stop our government from trampling THE PEOPLE!! Turn off your TVs, open your eyes, open your ears, raise your hand to make a fist, and open your mouth! If push comes to shove I'll be damned if it boils down to civil war. Let's hope it doesn't go there. It's time we retake our government, and stop bending over for big business and allowing them to pull the strings. We have to take control or we ourselves will be overcome by domestic terror! That's right, I fear that our own officials will terrorize us, not some jihadi in some desert far away. If freedom means anything anymore, we have to fight back politically, and if necessary with force to show that America and the People WILL NOT BE TRAMPLED UPON BY THE SELFISH INTEREST OF FAT TYCOONS WHO WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET THEIR FIX!! We the People have been long asleep thinking that there is no world beyond America and that the government is always right, and that we can sustain living the way we do with our gas guzzlers, our slave-labor tailored clothing, our genetically modifed and polluted food. I yearn for beautiful and spacious skies, and I yearn for purple mountains' majesty but it's frightening to see it all burn in the name of one nation under the dollar with liberty and justice for the rich.

I have been saying for a long time to people I talk to about these issues that BushCo is going to find a way to extend their control of the country past the presidential term.

I will not at all be surprised to see another "Terror Attack" that eliminates the elections. Osama has been Bushy's biggest help when ever his ratings get low. Helped him with the 2004 elections , helped him justify the neocon war ....

"Terrah" .... is Bush's biggest ally and has helped BushCo make the biggest power grab in The United States of America's history.

The PNAC and the other groups that they work with , have a big agenda ... They're going to do everything in their power to make it happen and they're in the positions of power to do it.

Iran and other targets in the middle east , has been a target since before sept 11 according to General Wesley Clark.

War is being fought for Big Oil , Corporations and the world banks. It's FAR from being remotely close to over .... BushCo and company will see to that and before it's all over ... Bush might be the dictator he wished he could be.

I checked freerepublic, protestwarrior, all the sites I could remember back from when I really loved and defended Bush. (Haven't since '04.)

This bill is being bizarrely ignored more than the failed hotel in Pyongyang, with the few commentators calling foul that Bush never gets a break from the media. Denial?

The line in the sand:

"The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed; where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once. "

Silveira v. Lockyer, 328 F.3d 567, 570 (Kozinski, J., dissenting), certiorari denied by 540 U.S. 1046.

If freedom means anything anymore, we have to fight back...to show that America and the People WILL NOT BE TRAMPLED...

You just think the sky is falling, America could never be like that, we're not like China/USSR/Afghanistan/etc. It'll never get that bad. Someone pass me the Cheetos, American Idol is on.

Antipitas, those are some dangerous words you just put up there...Can we get that on a t-shirt or a billboard or something? Now I have some really good ammo next time someone questions my 'irrational' hording of firearms (or 'anything' insurance as I refer to them).

(edited after googling Silveira v. Lockyer) (http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/data2/circs/9th/0115098p.pdf)

After reading this it's my humble opinion that we're all simple children, thinking we are adults. But at least this child won't be unprepared...

gfen, I sure hope you're kidding...

either that or I hope you're right. However, me being someone who finds it hard to believe what's going on these days I'd rather be paranoid and ready than complacent and obedient to tyrannical masters. Anyone else feel the same way I do about this situation?

Busterbury, it might interest you to know that Judge Alex Kozinski was born in 1950 in Bucharest, Romania. Both his parents were holocaust survivors and they immigrated to the US in 1962. The man knows what the Second Amendment is for.

I'm curious, if the "collective model' of gun ownership (you've got police & therefore a militia-no interesting guns for you) is the federal precident, can this not be changed? Or do all following judges have to yield to this gawd-aweful precident?

Good stuff anti...Love the sig, makes me think bout all the B.S. that's 'classified' for 'national security'. (caught that thing on the history channel about the FBI & John Lennon, made me wonder what would be the modern equivalent)

Those scorned lefties have been saying this for some time, but no one's bothered to pay attention because its been written off as so much Bush bashing and sour grapes.

However, even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

Now things are starting to get to be so blatent that I think finally others are beginning to notice, but there's still so many more who need to wake up, and the forces are arrayed against them.

gfen,
Those "scorned lefties" are the ones trying to take away our ability to protect ourselves.
How many times have I said it? We have no friends in Washington. Our best option is to keep them fighting each other so neither party has the leeway to ram their Totalitarian garbage down our throats.

Don't be too hard on yourself. A lot of us did. Remember the choices we had. Who woulda thunk?

GoSlash27 you're right...

If people would stop thinking partyline politics and look at the big picture, the problem is both extreme liberals AND extreme conservatives wanna push an extreme skew on the people. Notice how the biggest thing they have in common is being extreme? I think if people stop voting for the most popular/attractive/biggest and strongest partyline member our choice in candidates would be better. Also people shouldn't be afraid to vote for third parties, in all honesty most of the third parties seem to have a better idea of what needs to be done because they seem to be more in touch with people than the hardline Democrats or Republicans. When the Democrats and Republicans see the threat of a third party, they tend to try to marginalize the third party just so that only those two remain in power. Ah the paradox of America, great country, awesome set of laws as far as the Constitution is concerned, but man do we have quite a bit of whack jobs in office!
