Bush proposes 120% tax increase on security fee for airline tickets.

So fuel prices have tripled since 2003?
The article does not say that. Did you bother to read it? Please don't engage in fallacies of logic to try and discredit evidence that logically negates your assertion.

Not to mention, we all know that we can trust the books and what the CEO's say...
Classic fallacy of composition, PsychoSword. Just because one CEO lies, doesn't mean they all lie.

Then I guess they get bought out or go out of business! To bad for them.
Exactly how would this make things better?

Psycho...
You remind me of the children that I used to work with.
You seem to be incapable of giving a straight, honest answer. How sad.

The airline industry's pretax loss for 2005 is expected to be more than triple the previous estimates of one investment bank. The culprit: rising fuel prices.

So fuel prices have tripled since 2003?

So they blame "rising fuel prices", as being the main culprit, but we're not supposed to ask if fuel prices have tripled? Maybe jetfuel prices have tripled since last year, I don't know, it could have. You lost me with your line of thinking there.

Billions of dollars at stake and nobody is lieing about anything...yea...ok..

Exactly how would this make things better?

Less government intervention in the economy is always better. Less of your tax dollars in CEO's pockets is always good. You don't think better, more efficient airlines would pop up? You don't think they'd make quite a few changes in how things are run? Imagine if they had to run their business like everyone else does. The horror!

At 11:30 AM in post #5 of this thread, I asked you several questions. You haven't answered them yet, just refuted what others have said. Please share with us the bounty of your short life experience and tell us how you would solve this vexing problem. Please limit your answers to your own thoughts. Extra points given for avoiding insulting your fellow TFL members. :)

gburner, you know how libertarians love being told what to do over and over.

I have already told what I would do. Arm all passengers and make the airlines pay for security if they want security.

Tell us in your short life experience (no a lifetime isn't long, especially not your 45 years) what you would do different. Oh that's right, you already said you'd agree to raising taxes. Notice how I'm not hounding you for a more detailed answer?

And they'll just pass the cost on to the customer - just like what's happening now. The only difference is that the man who is ultimately in charge of airline security is proposing it, rather than some lying CEO (;)@PS) deciding it.

It isn't a tax on all taxpayers. It is a fee (call it a tax if you want) imposed only on those who choose to fly on commercial airlines.

Does this mean you have conceded the point, or is one (or both) of us confused.

That being the point, all airliners have to increase their rates. Under a free market, all airliners wouldn't have to go along with this. It is a tax. A tax is a tax no matter how you disguise it, whether it be in a phone bill or a registration fee to get your tags.

It's kind of like the whole phony arguement to privatize security. If it's deemed as necessary by the government, receives corporate welfare and the agents have governmental powers, there's nothing private about it at all regardless of whether it's backed by some private funds.

Well, if it's true you got to pick between - fly or drive.......easy

If this much more is added to plane fare I can guess a few more airlines will be finished. I have an idea maybe we should all write

So if the TSA guys and gals are doing such a BAD job as a few of the happy folks above say - Why have all flights been safe so far?........just luck.... give them a break dude. Like it or not they are trying to do a job and if it cost you 20 extra minutes to bad.........I rather give them extra time and fly safe....

So much crying and yet not a tear falls....... :D

At NO point in ANY of this discussion did I even say anything about raising taxes. It was you who suggested that raising taxes was my solution, then, YOU having said it, attributed it to me as if it were true. Get your facts straight. How are folks going to believe your arguments when you can't even accurately quote posted material. Geez...some peoples children.

If you don't agree with Bush's proposal and you disagree with mine, then I'd like to know what your solution is. I assumed falsely that since you seemed to be justifying Bush's position, (status quo and all) that you agreed with it. Silly me.

This is CRAZY TALK

Stick it to the airlines.....let them pay it....

Then they can......

They can..........

Raise the ticket price!!!!

Never mind :o
