Bullet went off loose in a handbag?

It's not so much the ammo as how is/where is the ammo stored...

Thanks for the added info. There is almost never more than one loaded weapon in my home (that nightstand gun) and none when I and my wife are out. The ammo is just stored in boxes stacked on the shelf of a locked closet.

Hello NickySantoro,,,

Did you miss this?

"Something must of hit the primer of one of the bullets," Bentley said. "The bullet stayed in the purse, but its casing put a hole in the purse and caused a minor leg wound."

I didn't miss it. i just don't believe it happened. Some of you people are truly gullible!

While I've never seen this happen, I believe it. I've seen stranger things happen so why not? Might have been one of those sensitive Federal primers and hit her knitting needle or keys or something. Perhaps she set her purse down hard to look at something.

I trashed my MILs fav vase in her living room with a wine bottle cork. Bullseye! I can laugh now but had a hard time keeping a straight face that day.

I am not exactly sure of your context; nor the "Rish"?

AZAK, what, you can't decipher non-words??? LOL, sorry. I had to reread it a couple of times to figure out what Rish was supposed to be. It should have been "Right, ...."

I have no idea where Rish came from. I would like to suggest it was from stray electrons on the internet, but more likely stray electrons in the brain producing typos.

Why don't you believe that a small piece of brass could have exited the purse and caused a minor leg injury?

It's almost laughable that anyone with firearms experience would think an exploding cartridge cant cause an injury.heck, fire crackers can remove fingers and they don't have metal wrapped around them or near the amount of powder.

Those pesky electrons, I too have had my fair share of challenges trying to "get them in a row" from time to time; for that matter, sometimes I am not very good with the ducks either!

Thanks for posting this.

I have had debates for over a decade about slamfires in Garands. There are fools who do not believe in sensitive primers, and are absolutely adamant that primer sensitivity has nothing to do with slamfires in Garands/M1a's. Pointing out slamfires in Garands and other types of semi automatic weapons do not register in their brains as they do not acknowledge the existence of either slamfires or other types of semi automatic mechanisms.

The fact that a round goes off in a purse, and in court evidence bag, and it reported in the press, kinda shows that primers are a little less than 100% predictable.
