Bulgy Mak

Having shot and owned both Walther PPKs and EG Maks, I'd take a Mak over a PPK any day.

The Mak is just way ahead. Even the Bulgie, Russian, and Chinese versions are better than Walthers (or a lot of other small pistols.)

Deaf, The Russians have had the PPK drawings and machinery as well as thirty years to re-engineer the pistol into something better. I don't know if they are better but certainly are an easier and simpler pistol to manufacture and train the troops to fire. My 1932 era PPK is made like a Swiss watch and functions just as smoothly.

My Dad brought home a Walther PP in .32 ACP from WWII. I still have it. The Makarov PM is a far, far superior pistol.

Although we know that it's not a Mak, there is a unique 'sticky' about the P-83 on Makarov.com: "Polish P-83...More than Meets The Eye" by BWilhelm, with large photos showing many very clear internal details. I've had one for about a year and reportedly it's a very clever design.

The guns are said to be equally reliable and as rugged as actual Makarovs, but the stamped parts and thin bluing will always be seen as drawbacks. There could be other drawbacks which I've not yet read about.
My quite seasoned gun buddies (also middle-aged) always carry the snappy P-64, but had never seen the 83.

Just got done testing the new mags all. All together, 750 rounds have been put through this gun with ZERO failures.

To say I'm pleased is a gross understatement.

Saw your thread about Tokarevs told ya addictive

I think I'm going to pass on the Tokarevs.

All the ones imported have ugly and dumb safeties grafted on in various locations to meet imported requirements. Gross. Plus, nowadays the ammo is about 50% more expensive than 9x18mm.

I think I'll save the money for food for my wonderful and unmolested Bulgarian Makarovs. :)

Yes you're a bit late to the party it would be easier to resist at today's prices.

The price of the pistols are very inexpensive, at least some Romanian ones out there now.

It's the cost of the ammo and the goofy safeties that are turning me off in a big way. And I once owned a Zastava M70A which is a current production 9x19mm Tokarev and it was problematic.

Yes it wasn't that long ago that 1280 round spam cans were $75, lots of other mil surps that have come and gone too. But to my misfortune there's always the next batch of something.
