Buffalo Wild Wings and No Guns

In AZ, the sign has to have specific features to be enforceable. Tthe law is as follows;

Licenses; Handguns; Posting of Notice
A.
A person with a permit issued pursuant to section 13-3112 may carry a concealed handgun on the premises of a licensee who is an on-sale retailer unless the licensee posts a sign that clearly prohibits the possession of weapons on the licensed premises. The sign shall conform to the following
requirements:
1. Be posted in a conspicuous location accessible to the general public and immediately adjacent to the liquor license posted on the licensed premises.
2.Contain a pictogram that shows a firearm within a red circle and a diagonal red line across the firearm.
3.Contain the words, "no firearms allowed pursuant to A.R.S. section 4
-
229".
B. A person shall not carry a firearm on the licensed premises of an on-sale retailer if the licensee has posted the notice prescribed in subsection A of this section.

Even if they posted an improper sign, I would still not solicit that specific locale. If they do not want my business, I will not give it to them.
 
Major point -- Laws vary by state. Know the laws of your state. I try not to visit establishments with these signs but occasionally have to do so. I try to honor their wishes since I'm on their property. Occasionally, there will be a business that will post a sign that does not grab my attention (no specific size requirement in my state). I patronized a bank for at least a couple of years until I noticed a "no guns" sign about three inches from the bottom of the glass entry door. I'm sure glad Kentucky just allows the owner/manager to bar access to the premises, rather than turning them into automatic criminals.
 
My daughter works at one and I visit there every now and again. I don't disarm and she knows it. I'm quite sure her manager knows it too.
 
We've been having a real issue with these signs popping up everywhere in OK. My local bank put one up and I went to talk to the manager about it. He "assured me" that the intent of the sign wasn't to keep out people with a concealed permit. It was intended to keep out the newly legal in OK, the open carry types. I told him I still didn't want to have to see that sign every time I walked into the bank.

In OK, the sign doesn't have "the force of law." If they figure out you are armed, they can ask you to leave. The problem is that these signs are essentially creating a new space: the no legal open carry space. Despite the fact that we have seen zero problems in OK with open carry.

So yeah, concealed means concealed and I would walk in right past the sign in OK. But it WOULD mean I couldn't open carry in there. I couldn't be arrested but I could be asked to leave almost immediately.

I am really crossing my fingers that when our Carry law finally gets through here in Illinois that signs either do not have the force of law or they have to be VERY clear and of a uniform size like in Texas.

You can still get into trouble with that though, up in Wisconsin they can post these DVD box sized signs at entrance to the parking lot of a large mall and nowhere else. Drives you crazy looking for a tiny little sign while you are trying your hardest not to get backed-into by some mini-van driving suburban mom.
 
This is the first I am hearing of BW3s "Gun Free Zone". I really liked that place. I'll swing by my local one here in Missouri and see if they have a sign. Granted My feelings are not hurt that badly as I haven't visit a BW3s in ,,,,,, I can't remember but its been awhile.

I guess no skin off my back.

Regarding the sign doesn't carry the law, I've heard too many stories at the GS and at classes about how business's are not asking you to leave if they suspect you of carrying a firearm. They are simply calling the police and if the LE are having a bad day they will issue a citation/fine.
 
In all honesty, I don't think I've ever carried in our local Buffalo Wild Wings simply because when I go there, I usually have a beer (or five).


I wonder how much of thier profits are derived from alcohol sales, though.

That would determine whether or not carry was kosher in GA before a sign was posted.
 
If it makes anyone feel better. I manage a restaurant in central Wisconsin. The owner recently posted his NRA sticker and a sign on the front door that reads "lawful carry is welcome on this property". Both him and I carry often while working.

Thanks restlessnomad....the way it should be throughout the US.

Far as BWW and 'no guns', I don't think our BWW has any gun signs up.

If they ever put them up, I'll find someplace else to go. But I will surely tell the owner/manager my reasons for not coming back.

Kudo's to the OP for writing corporate.

Does no good to just quit going and not inform the business as to the reason why.
 
The one near me in Norfolk has a sign like the one in post #2 - text only, kind of a frosted white on clear glass. I don't know that I would have even noticed it if I hadn't heard about BWW banning guns in some of its locations.
 
I would help them advertise their noble decision to ban guns from the premises. I would write all the local gun clubs, ranges, and sporting goods stores in the area, and attach a picture of their front door in the e-mails. I know I would appreciate someone letting me know of their policy before I wasted a drop of gasoline driving there.

The days of "Any pub is good pub." are over.

If even 5% of their customers are actively pro-gun, they definitely do not want to take a 5% hit on their business volume.

NoGuns=NoMoney cards have worked well around here.

Kansas is like Texas in that any "no gun" sign has to be of a certain type, size, and displayed at approximately eye level. In this state it is a Beretta m9 with a red circle around and slash through it. My local grocery store has a completely incorrect sign. I used to work there in the evenings so I know the owner reasonably well....well enough to tell him that his sign was not of the correct type. I also made it clear that the day the proper sign was posted would be the first day of me not spending a single cent in his store and I would do my best to see to it that the multitudes of ccw permit holders in our little town also never shopped there again.

This is correct in VA. The PD can be called but you have to be given the chance to leave. A manager could ask you to leave and if you refuse the officer can only make the arrest if you refuse to leave once he hears the manager tell you. BUT, always a but, the manager can go to the magistrates and swear out a Trespass warrant for not leaving once told. This is a Class 1 misdemeanor in VA so an officer can ID you for the restaurant and they could technically obtain a warrant. In my 30 years as a LEO I never saw this happen as businesses just want people to leave. They don't like being the bad guys and going the warrant route.
 
Not in Des Moines

The 2 BW3's in Des Moines do not post these signs. The Dahl's grocery store I've gone to for 20 yrs and that my son worked at before he became a local news anchor posted one in the past year.

I don't think the DSM Buccaneers hockey rink has such signs, but Sec Taylor Stadium, home of the Iowa Cubs, might.

Very oddly, the Martin Marietta limestone shaft mine in Ames has a sign saying "No Knives". We get our limestone there for ready mix. I do not pack at work.

I just ignore such signs. My S&W 638 is nearly invisible and something as big as my .45 is cumbersome and just invites trouble.

I'm told in Iowa, the sign means nothing. They must tell you verbally you're not welcome.
