Browning Hi Power Fans... Surplus guns $289

Yet still no recommendations.... Keep in surplus condition as a combat pistol, or send off for a re-blue, replace stock grips with cocobolo, get a trigger job and Novak sights.... Where are the opinions? :)

I shot it today for function only.... Ran great but the sights really are horrendous. What do y'all say?

Don't think these are particularly collectable. I would leave it as is and shoot the snot out of it. Might pretty it up a little if it didn't cost too much. Maybe a DIY Cerakote job.

I picked one up from AIM a little while back, looks a little rough. The sights are pretty beat up, it looks as though someone used the pistol as a hammer. I intend to rust blue it sometime in the (hopefully) near future, but am undecided if I want to replace the sights with novaks or not. I did replace the safety with an extended C&S safety. All that to say my vote goes towards getting the pistol reworked rather than leaving it in its current condition.

If you want new sights send it off to Novak they will mill the slide and install new sights. Cheaper to send just the slide then the entire pistol. If it were mine that is all I would do and you have a perfect truck gun!

If the frame is in good enough shape and you want to use it as a base gun you could always swap the firing controls with C&S parts, hammer, sear, trigger, safety, new grips and refinish.

Except for being a Browning Hi-Power, it isn't anything special or rare. A professional refinish will enhance the value, not reduce it. For what you have in it, I would definitely get it redone. Get it milled for the sights that you want, get it refinished, add some nice checkered Cocobolo grips and then add your own honest wear to it.
