Browning Golden Clays still made?

The Browning website no longer shows the Golden Clays Sporting model. It is still manufactured? A good friend of mine is looking at one that is close to new. It is very nice. If it is not made any longer what year was it discontinued? Thoughts? Thanks.

I know the Gold - Golden Clays - Sporting Clays semi-auto models were still in the 2007 catalog ( I have one at my desk - I'm a pack rat ...).

I think the Gold line of semi-autos went away, except in 10ga, in 2008 ( as their Winchester sister division started coming on with their guns ) and as the Maxus and the Silver lineup of guns started to take over.

I know you said he / or she -- wants the Golden Clays model ....so I think you'll have to contact some of the big dealers around the US ( Cole, etc ) and see if they still have any around. The good news, although its not as nice a looking gun / the Silver Sporting looks to me like it has the same dimensions for drop at comb, drop at heel and overall weight ...

sorry, I can't be more specific // but I haven't seen any new gold models around for quite a while ....or any used either ( but I don't shop much for semi-autos, except Benelli Super Sports, so I might have missed them )...

Blue book lists the Citori 325 Golden Clays as Mfg. 1994 only and $2,450 at 100%

Citori 425 Golden Clays Mfg. 1995-2001 $2,725 at 100%

Citori 525 Golden Clays Mfg. 2002-2007 $3,975

Citori GTI Golden Clays Mfg, 1993-1994 $2,350

Citori Special Sporting GC Mfg. 1993-1998 $2,000

Citori XS Golden Clays Mfg. 2002-2003 $3,150

I started writing this before I found the Special Sporting, that's why all the extra info.

Thinking ya did Jim - Golden Clays is the O/U............most were the basic gun with some extra engraving and grade II or III wood

I'm confused ......because I know there was a "525 series, Golden Clays" model a few years back ...and I didn't know ( or have forgotten ) about a "Golden Clays" model ....

We will have to wait for him to respond - to see what he's really talking about ... ( Browning Marketing dept ...has run amuk on their names, and model numbers .... its Confusing Me ....)

That's why I just listed all the ones that I found under Citori sporting clays. I excluded the trap and skeet models.

We obviously need more info ... ( and how good a friend is this, by the way ) ....before he buys "her" this gun ...???:D But then again, if he really liked "Her" he'd let her have his Benelli Super Sport .....:D

^ Those are nice. A couple of guys I shoot skeet with have them, with the carbon fiber furniture.

...and we're off topic.

No we're not off topic :D -- waterengineer asked about a shotgun ...and 3 of us, made different assumptions ....and since he didn't explain himself - before he left the room quickly

....it means we can roast him, until he comes back .....

He has at least one Benelli Super Sport / and I have 2 of them ( one in 12ga and one in 20ga ) ...and they are great semi-autos ....so we're still on shotgun topics ...we've just hijacked it a little since he isn't here to defend himself ... ( that'll teach him to wander off when we're talking ...) and we're friends ...so he would expect nothing less :D

OK, OK, I'm back. Wow, you guys are a tough crowd.

Yes, my daughter has the SuperSport most of the time and yes, she did actually load all those shells at spring break.

No, the gun is not for the daughter....or the girl friend.....or me.

A buddy is looking at it. Yes, it is the Gold Clays semi-auto. Sorry about the confusion. It is used. The current owner is asking around $1100 which I think is a little high. But it is rather purdy for a semi-auto.

The reason I was looking it up was to find what the original MSRP was. It looks like they are asking for $1K to $1200 openning bid on gunbroker.com with no takers.

Anyone familiar with this gun? Anything to be careful of, that I should tell him? Or is is typical Browning bulletproof, pun fully intended.

There is a Gold Sporting Clays which is listed in the 2008 book as new in 1996. MSRP $1184, 100% $1000

There is also the Gold Golden Clays which was new in 1999. MSRP is $1941, 100% $1650. This is the engraved with gold accents and game birds.

I don't have any experience with this gun ( just copying from 2007 catalog ) ..

The Browning Gold - "Golden Clays" Sporting Clays in the 2007 Browning Catalog lists for $ 1,848 .... so I suspect they sold new for around $1,500 - $ 1,600.

Catalog says its an aluminum reciever ...Golden Clays engraving with gold enhancements ( Pheasant transitioning into a clay target on right side and a quail transitioning into clay target on left side). Vent rib / Chrome chamber, ported barrel.

It would have come with 3 flush mounted chokes / Mod, IC and Skeet. Its gas operated, 2 3/4" chamber, Active Valve system, Satin walnut finish, Shim adjustable stock with 1/4" adjustment range ( 1/8" up and 1/8" down), Hi Viz TriComp fibre optic sight, mid bead, "speed loading" ??

It was available in 2007 in either a 28" or 30" barrel, 7lbs 13oz / and 7lbs 14oz respectively, overall length is 48 1/2" or 50 1/2" respectively, both had 1 1/2" drop at comb, a 3/4" drop at heel, both have length of pull at 14 1/4", and rib is tapered from 5/16" - 4/16" ....

In 2007 - they made a "ladies version" that was 1 oz lighter, but had 1/4" less drop at comb and at heel, and a length of pull of 13 1/2" in 12ga only and a 28" barrel only ( same list price ).

Both - The ladies version and the "men's version" were made in a "Golden Clays" with the engraving, etc ... / and a blued or annodized dark receiver version that listed for $ 1,127 ( with the same specs respectively ).

There was also a Gold Evolve Sporting / and a Gold NRA Sporting ( the evolve had 1/4" more drop at comb and heel / NRA version was like the others but both with annodized or blued receivers (still aluminum) and listed for $1,287 and $1,160 respectively ....

If you really need it - send me a private message with a fax number and I'll fax you the 2 pages from the 2007 catalog.

( sorry about the abuse / ...no, not really .....changed my mind ) :D Good to see you around --- take care !

Take a peek around. I just bought the wife a Browning Gold Sporting Clays semi for quite a bit less. But it's the Womens version I assume (LOP is about 13 1/2). Jaquas.com had a couple and they should be around 700-$800 when I was price shopping.

If this is the same model very impressed with it. The recoil is next to nothing and it shoots about 60/40 at 35 yards with Wally-World Federal 8shot.

WaterEngineer:

Here is a brand new unfired one still in the box, and no bids at all for it so far. Minimum bid is only $1,000 That would be a really good deal for a brand new, never fired gun.

Final Report

OK, gents. First everyone thanks for posting. The power of TFL comes through again.

My buddy Mike G. and I met the gun owner at the Okeechobee range Saturday afternoon.

Pretty gun. Functioned flawlessly without a hickup thorough about 40 shells between the two of us. Nice of the owner to let us shoot it that much.

Frankly not that much different than the Benelli SS in weight - the browning was a little heavier than an out of the box SS. I do believe the Browning is a little more butt heavy. I liken that to rearward bias of the wood stock.

The wood on this particular example was not that great - just regular grain.

I did like some of the bells and whistles of the Browning - i.e., the unload button was handy.

At the end of the day Mike G. took a pass because of the aluminum reciever.
