Browning a-bolt stainless stalker advise

A buddy of mine wants to sell me a browning a-bolt stainless stalker in .270. I have not seen it yet and do not know how much he wants for it yet. I know it does not have the boss system and it does have a Nikon scope on it. Probably a buckmaster or prostaff I would guess. It has had very little use and is around 15 years old. I wouldn't mind buying it if he offers me a good deal (he said he would) but don't want to over pay. What do you think a good ballpark price would be. I will get a look at it later this week.

I don't know exactly what a good price on it would be and even if I did I don't know if it would be very helpful anyway because "good price" is a relative term and largely depends on how badly you want the rifle and how eager your friend is to get rid of it.

Anyhow, I own an older A-Bolt Stainless Stalker in .260 with a Leupold VARI-X III and I can say it is a great rifle. I wish I had the BOSS system on it but I wouldn't let the fact that it doesn't effect your decision

I don't need the rifle but wouldn't mind adding it to my collection. He is left handed and it is a right handed rifle so he doesn't want it. I'm just looking for a fair price for both parties.

I have 2 stainless stalkers, both of mine have boss's & are magnum actions... one in 338 Win Mag, the other in 375 H&H... they are excellent rifles

I have a hole in my bolt action collection, ( .270 to be exact ) & would love to buy one... I'd expect $600 - $750 would be price I'd expect to pay ( a good deal )

YMMV

I just sold a Stainless Stalker to a friend and gave him a deal at $500 with no scope. If you can get your friend down around there I think you'll be doing well.

I got my gun the first year they came out and have shot a few deer and a bunch of elk with it. I really like the short bolt throw and light weight of the rifle but the trigger leaves a little to be desired. I did some work on it, cutting springs down and smoothing it, and got it to an acceptable pull weight.

I have one of those (about the same age) without the boss in 25-06, it's my best deer rifle. I would never sell mine for such a low price.

I have two left-handed A-Bolt Stainless Stalkers - a .300 Win Mag and a 7mm Rem Mag without the BOSS. The .300 is an awesome shooter (elk and black bear). I haven't shot the 7mm.

The 32nd Blue Book gives these values: 100% - $600; 98% - $525; 95% - $450; 90% - $410.

I'd say the offer is good.

I'm not in the market for a rifle right now but I would jump on that deal. My dad had a stainless stalker in 270 that my brother inherited. It is his go to deer rifle and groups great even with him shooting it.
