Brokaw: "I Would Be Nervous Going Into A Bar" In Arizona

I hope his uninformed mind does not spread false facts to others.

Dude.... he's on TV. His job is to spread "information" to others. When it's false information, he spreads it to others just as easily.

He's right about one thing.... I'm always nervous if I have to go to a bar. That's why I don't. Guns don't have anything to do with it though.

Its illegal to carry concealed in any establishment that serves alcohol. At least it is in the great state of Alabama. Who cares what Tom Brokow or any other liberal thinks. They wont be happy until we no longer have ANY gun.

Correct me if I am wrong,,,

But didn't Arizona just pass a law legalizing carry without a permit?

I'm 98% certain I read that here somewhere.

Aarond

Arizona did pass constitutional carry. Obtaining a permit is optional. And 42 states allow concealed carry in premises that serve alcohol although some limit it to restaurants only). Two of the remaining 8 (Wisconsin and Illinois) don't allow concealed carry at all.

Brokaw has probably sat next to a CCW holder in a bar and didn't know it.

According to Handgunlaw.us there is no specific state law prohibiting Alabamans from carrying in a liquor establishment, but the state allows sheriffs to put their own additional restrictions on permit holders, some choose to ban bar carry.

I carry in bars in Colorado. It's never been a problem. I'm sure it never will be.

If somebody is afraid to be around guns, that's his problem, not mine.

With a simple search I found that you must have a permit to carry concealed and to get a permit one of the rules is you have to go to an 8 hour class.

I'm pretty sure you don't need a permit to carry in Arizona, so Brokaw's right on that count.

I love how he mentioned storing ammo in "underground bunkers". Try to make these gun nuts look insane and paranoid by saying they have bunkers :p

Don't ya remember the bury the guns in PVC threads of the good ol' days?
Sure do! Wipe it down with Hoppe's, plug the ends of the tube, and flush it with nitrogen. Then bury it deep enough that metal detectors can't find it.

Thing is, if you're going to do it, make sure you know exactly where you buried it. Otherwise, someone might come and start building a subdivision over the land where you (forgot) you buried a Colt Sporter back in 1993.

Ask me how I know this. Great story.

Trusting Tom Brokaw for gun advice is about as valid as kissing lessons from C. Everett Koop.

We eliminated the permit in September of last year when we enacted Constitutional Carry, which says you may conceal if you are not going to commit a crime, (basically), BUT we still offer it for those who want it. To carry in an establishment serving open alcohol you MUST have a permit and the establishment must NOT have the sign posted prohibiting carry. Also the permittee may NOT consume any alcohol.
I think the training for CCW can be waived now if you had practically any training before whatsoever, and the mandatory class is something like 4 hours. When it started in '94, it was 16 hours.

just watch some of MSNBC and you can get a headache with all the anti-gun retoric going on. Its called main stream media

Not true - in alabama it depends on the sheriff. He can restrict it like he can with a bunch of other parameters, but by state law, there is nothing prohibiting you from carrying in a bar.

I think my permit says 51% revenue comes from alcohol served then I can't carry. Others say 'any place' selling alcohol (liquor stores too). Others don't have any restrictions. Alabama is very hit and miss on the actual details of CCW.

As for AZ, they have constitutional carry but you need a permit to carry into a few off limits places like bars.

Brokow would be nervous to be in a bar in PA. you can open carry without a license. there are no legal restrictions on carry and or drinking in a bar.

Gee Tom, pay no attention to the fact that the parking lot at that bar is full of vehicles that may soon be driven down the road by the patrons of that same bar.

It's only called that by people who like to pretend that the network they're watching isn't mainstream. The network most fond of branding MSNBC "mainstream" actually has more viewers.

Apart from Brokaw's reference to "underground bunkers," I really can't see anything here to complain about. He isn't reporting news, nor is he pretending to. It's an op-ed piece. He was correct about concealed carry without a permit, and he's entitled to feel anxious about bars.
