Bought a new rifle (semiauto) at LGS. 1st time out it doesn't function.
Fails to chamber, fails to fire, fails to eject (on different cartridges).
Ammo was new factory quality stuff. Yes I tried 2 kinds.

Can a firearm transferred to you at LGS, be returned to LGS ?
And no, so far they are not offerring anything other than me sending back to mfr.

Thanks

Did you give it a thorough cleaning before shooting? Remove all of the packing grease, relube per the owner's manual?

Hang in there !!!

And no, so far they are not offerring anything other than me sending back to mfr.
Unfortunately, that is how most gun stores operate and they should be avoided. I have had a couple of LGSs that have taken back "used" guns. At this point, I fear that your only recourse is to send it in to the manufacturer. If the dealer won't help you, then there should be information in the manual to assist you. ..... ;)

Now, at face value and reading between the lines, I'm seeing some red-flags. This really sours your anticipation on this "new" gun. This is an interesting post and will make sure to follow it. Let us know how you make out. This has never happened to me, on a new firearm and this might bring up a good point of asking a dealer about situations like this. ...

Good Luck and;
Be Safe !!!

Not unfortunately, most stores are NOT warranty repair centers; helping him with returning it is the norm, as is calling the maker and asking for a prepaid label. That said, he did not respond yet as to whether he gave it a thorough cleaning and relubing or even what gun is in question.

I have yet to find a gun store that allows returns. Most will repair them until it can't be repaired anymore and then give you a new one when they figure out that it is a lemon.

Does anyone know of a gun store that allows refunds/returns?

Thanks all.

Yes I thoroughly cleaned and properly lubed prior to 1st firing, and own a similar rifle ie know where to clean/lube.

I have never had a failure like this on a brand new gun and have probably bought at least 8-10 firearms new.

LGS represents itself as "high end", and couldn't even come up with a box. Not sure if it's worth a letter to the owner. Left a voice mail for manager asking for help obtaining a box, and he hasn't bothered to call back in 24 hrs.

At least Mfr has been very receptive and apologetic, commiting to making her run. Already sent a shipping label. I'm waiting for local pack and ship type store to make a box ($20 more into the fire).

And the most ironic of all is I've never spent more $ on a gun than this one.

Dissappointed as hell and just have fingers crossed Mfr takes care of it without reducing accuracy.

Thanks for listening.

I will try to update, although I'm sure it will be a month before I see it back.

Did you buy a Huldra Evo Tactical by chance?
I did and I could have wrote that OP myself word for word. The only difference is I tried 3 different mags and 3 different kinds if ammo

Nope. Not a Huldra Evo Tactical . I tried a couple different mags, but all same mfr.
Hope it worked out for you on the Huldra. Looks nice. Fast twist 1:7. Needs heavy bullets.

We'll see how it turns out. It got sent back to the manufacturer. Three week turnaround to get it back.

And yes, fast twist! That's why I got it. But it doesn't do me any good where it is though. Thought they might give me a loaner while it was in the shop but apparently thats not included in the warranty.

Hope you get yours squared away in a timely fashion.

The idea of a loaner gun is a real bad idea. Most gun stores won't give out loaners.

Same reason I don't loan my friends or family any of my guns, ever. If am act of intentional or unintentional malfeasance is committed with my gun, I may not know about it. I would then be in possession of a gun that was used to commit a crime or was involved in an accident.

There is no law preventing them from taking a gun back,,,

There is no law preventing them from taking a gun back,,,
But many LGS owners will tell you thee is.

I purchased a brand new firearm that was bad out of the box,,,
I took it to the LGS the next day wanting an exchange,,,
The owner told me that it was against the law.

That is complete falsehood.

What is the difference between a defective toaster and a defective gun?

The dealers can (read are able to) get a refund/exchange on faulty merchandise,,,
Why do they continue to pass the responsibility onto their customers?

Because they can.

I eventually got my money back,,,
But it was after a long and very vocal exchange.

So now I know two things:

1) Ask about their policy before you buy.
2) Check the specific gun out very carefully before you buy it.

If the dealer won't let you do that, walk away.

Some shops won't even help you with shipping a defective firearm to the manufacturer. One of my local dealers actually requires you to sign a paper stating that you understand that any defects in the gun should be taken up with the manufacturer rather than the gun shop. I understand that there is probably a lot more red tape with a returned firearm, but washing your hands of it entirely once its out the door is some awful customer service.

Some shops won't even help you with shipping a defective firearm to the manufacturer.

That is Wallyworld's policy. Once it leaves their store it is your responsibility for any warranty work.

WHY DID YOU NOT NAME THE GUN ??
MY gun store would take it back in a minute and refund your money IF that is what you desire. THEY will do what is needed to make you happy. BUT...Do NOT lie to them after YOU have screwed it up and expect them to bail you out of your profound ignorence/stupidity.
WHY would you do business with a gunstore like yours ?

And so it goes...

Frankly, like it or not, I've never met an LGS that will take a return. I have met 1 or 2 that speak to you after the sale...

I think Buds might take returns...
