Brainwashed anti-gun teens...........

You old "farts" are the only ones I get along with anymore! :D All people my age spend their stupid money on *gasp*...clothes!!

By "presenting the truth" and "...it's that simple" I meant that we counter the onslaught of lies that brainwash with an onslaught of truth. Like what they do...but in reverse. We counter the lies with truth. Yup, an uphill battle all the way. One thing to add, and it's just my inexperienced youthful mind reeling...but the ones who will not listen to reason or logical systems of thought are screwed up anyway. They have no foundation for growth or even stablitly of their thought. And since thought usually dictates most actions, their actions are on shaky ground as well. Logic is the ONLY basis for solid systems of belief. Without it, they simply cannot stand the tests (mainly: skepticism). People that are irrational must have their actions forced and dictated. They will sway with every curent trend. Gee, sounds a lot like 95% of the current society, doesn't it? The gun rights issue is a system. It's logical construction is what makes it so strong. So, all we have to do is try to convey that logical structured truth to people, show them why, and the rational ones (the only ones that really matter any) will respond positively. Sure, most people will call me a gun-toting warmonger who loves violence. But...those are the people who don't love logic. And I don't care what illogical people have to say. It's a constant fight, a fight against not only lies but of indifference. We must fortify ourselves with the bulwarks of truth that we may be able to stand strong against the offensive of lies. And after we have done that -- then we counter. There is nothing else that can be done to defeat lies but to replace them with truth. And that's simple (at least in theory). It's a hard execution, but simple in design.

Hueco, as an OFIT (old fart in training,) I've learned a lot from a series of essays. The most important is:

"Whether we are going to survive is going to be determined by whether we are willing to fight for survival. This begins with several things:

1) There must be understanding and acceptance of the basic truth, however painful and discomforting it may be.
2) There must be release from the externally imposed irrational guilt over seeing the truth and expressing it.
3) People must restore their personal integrity, maturity, and capacity for indignation.
4) There must be a broad unifying conceptualization of life and political philosophy developed in specific detail.
5) Those advocates of their own survival will need to be able to refute their opponents aggressively and in broad detail.
6) A little bare-knuckle boxing will probably be in order before it's over."

The series may be found here:

Start at the bottom and work your way up.

You'll get the equivalent of a doctoral level course in psychology, history, and political science.

Such a deal!

Re: All the media blitz by HCI and the MMM types, and the recent boom in gun sales, carry permits, and (most importantly) first time gun owners.

Have the 'media types' forgotten one of their own cardinal rules in todays' short-attention-span society? There is no such thing as bad publicity...

Just a point to ponder.

Tamara, I'd have to respectfully disagree with you on that point. While the number of guns purchased has risen, mostly due to existing gun owners buying MORE guns, the number of first time gun owners does continue to drop. "They" are winning the cultural war. They are in our schools, TV, magazines, newspapers and radio.

There are still a vast majority of sheeple who willingly eat the media food being spooned to them - and believing it.

We are still the very small minority.

One brick at a time though...

NRA? Good. Now joing the GOA!

Munro, those points you listed -- exactly what I was saying. Right on! :D

CMOS, yes we are the minority. But that only proves the point that we are the right ones. And since when did "minority" equate to "weak?" I know you didn't say that, I'm just pointing it out. This is all a fight for freedom. No different in principle from the fight for independance. We are being imposed upon. We true Americans love freedom and the responsibilities that come with it. I will fight. Now peacefully, only trying to show as many people the right way. But later on, I doubt that peace will be possible as liberalism spreads. I will never be disarmed.

CMOS,

I know it differs from most official statistics I've seen published, but I have sold to literally dozens of first-time owners since I started back at the gun store in June '99 (And I'm only there 3hrs a day, 5 days a week). A much larger percentage than when I worked there before (3/94-9/95).

Y2K?, Fear Boom?, "Get 'em while you can" types? Who knows, but in my (admittedly small, and pretty heavily Republican) population sample, that's the truth...

I`ve got kind of a funny story to relate. My family and I were at a local buffet for dinner and as is my habit,I was wearing my NRA hat.A nice looking young lady was passing our table and when she spotted my hat she glared at me.I gave no reaction but noticed her eyeballing me a couple more times and whispering to her dinner companions.Just so happened that we finished before them and had to pass by her table on our way out and she was using the opportunity to deliver a parting glare when it happened.I know it was wrong but my evil twin took over and I gave her a wink and blew her a kiss on my way out.

I could clearly hear choking noises as I went out the door.Gee,I hope she`s alright. ;)

Living in the People's Republic of Maryland means that I have to deal with lots of antigun peers. It amazes me that despite the fact that they know that illegal drug use and the channels to acquire them exist even in what's one of the best counties in the state that they don't realize that illegal channels for guns also exist. I've managed to convert a few but many that I've talked to are still thinking in ideology and not reality. It sometimes is so depressing to see Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, all shall-issue states, just across the border and be stuck in this oblast (Russian term for a region) . . .

Still, it's one brick at a time and I've found that my conversations often end up turning towards issues of politics and RKBA pretty often.
