Brady Campaign Planning Another Name Change - Backs Off AWB

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politic...pporters-seek-reboot-after-politcal-inaction/

Apparently in the wake of being abandoned by Joe Biden, Diane Feinstein, and the President in the wake of the Aurora shooting, the Brady Campaign has decided to take a different approach and is starting a website called "wearebettterthanthis.org" (which will launch later tonight). The site will feature a petition demanding politicians "do something" about gun violence; but when asked whether the Brady Campaign still supports the AWB, Dan Gross (new Brady president) said:

“I wouldn’t say that we do or don’t at this point. I would say what we need to do is consider all of the solutions,” he said, arguing that such solutions will only come with input from supporters of gun rights and gun control.

“There are solutions that most gun owners and most NRA members support,” he said. “And there are supporters of a national gun policy that support the second amendment. … We need to make sure we’re on the same page before we start pushing specific policy provisions.”

Frankly, I don't trust them at all, so I am not sure how you are going to have an effective dialogue without that element; but interesting to see their latest approach.

It's a slippery slope approach by trying to be seemingly reasonable. But clearly, they want to ban all guns.

I would like to ask the reasonable types:

1. Do you support all lawabiding citizens being able to own firearms?
2. Do you support the shall issue CCW laws that are in the majority over 40 states?

If they say :

Well for sports and hunting
NO.

Then you got them nailed. Like to ask Mayor Bloomers that.

You are a brave man, Glenn, . . . personally I would never want to be in the same room with mr bloomers, . . . whatever ailment he has, . . . could possibly rub off, . . . surely would never want that to happen.

And I believe you are 100% correct, . . . opening a friendly dialog with those individuals, . . . just wouldn't be productive. Besides that, . . . it'd have to be out at my front yard shooting range, . . . and when they came in the driveway and saw all the empty brass, . . . shot shell hulls, . . . etc. they would probably call for the cavalry to come rescue them while they wet their britches.

May God bless,
Dwight

werebetterthanthis.org?

Seriously?

Man, I am sick of these uber-pretentious campaigns.

Considering that guns still account for many violent crimes in cities where gun control is the strongest, what is the real point of getting rid of guns?

I don't think they're evil, just highly misguided. Unfortunately, I think they are a bunch of useful idiots that do have a bigger agenda for disarming the general populace.

So, they've gone from Handgun Control to the Brady Campaign to WBTT. That's one unfortunate vowel away from being a hilarious acronym.

There are some real strategic problems for them here. They've always attracted support from the far edge of one side of the political aisle, and moving to the center only weakens them. There's no support in the middle.

By backing off their central ideas (which still culminate in banning guns), they're going to leave Feinstein, McCarthy and the rest disillusioned. If they think anyone from the NRA is going to return their phone calls, they've miscalculated.

So...why? Perhaps they're trying on a kinder, gentler moniker. They considered themselves unassailable until the Heller decision, and then we started hearing the word "reasonable" from them. They're trying to stay relevant in a rapidly shifting climate, but moving from the fringe to the center won't be successful.

Interestingly enough, werebetterthanthis.org is registered out of Arizona.

Strange that despite widespread demonization in the press, the NRA has used the same name since 1871. It is almost like one side of this debate is ashamed of what they stand for and keep changing their name to downplay it.

Personally, I don't see the point in having a dialogue with gun banners. Every time the dialogue/compromise goes the same way "Well, which guns are you willing to ban? None of them? Now you are being an unreasonable extremist."

I don't trust them either.

However the fact that they constantly change tactics and launch new sites is comforting.

Considering their recent financial statements, I'm surprised they have enough money to register a domain, much less pay someone to build a site.

I was going to point this out in response to Tom Servo's comment that there's no support from the middle. If they are already broke while getting their funding from the extreme end of the spectrum, they don't have much to lose trying to make it appear they have suddenly become more moderate. If you're already broke, how much broker can you get? It's not like they're going to pay back the debts they've incurred.

Yeah. Too bad Geocities went under :)

In the 2010 election cycle, they had ~$5600 on tap. That doesn't even cover rent and coffee for the interns. The VPC hasn't spent a dime in three years.

I hate feeling like a criminal taking my varmint rifle out to my pickup. Afraid someone is gonna dive by and see it then call the police. It's perfectly legal, I just don't wanna have the hassle.

I often tell a story about how I got pulled over with a couple of hunting rifles and a pistol in the vehicle and the officer mis-Identified me as an ex felon with multiple paroles. It was hairy for Me for a minute, but the officer worked pretty hard to establish my correct Id. But my real point is this, whenever I'm done recounting my story to others, someone always asks, "what did they do about the guns?" I always say nothing, it's perfectly legal.

Looks to me like a good way to lose the little funding you are receiving.

Domain still shows as "for sale"

Had my shirt blown up by the wind a day or two ago - totally exposed my pistol - I darn near had a panic attack, while legal to OC in Ohio, I'm no activist

A salient quote,,,

About Brady Bunch people,,,

"Do not try to understand them, and do not try to make them understand you, for they are a breed apart and make no sense."
