Bought a P220 this morning

Well, I went back to the shop with the P220 this morning determined that I wouldn't buy the pistol if the dealer refused to let me strip the gun to inspect the rails and barrel as Tecolote suggested here.

Imagine my delight when I told the dealer (Got the owner today, it was his wife yesterday) that I wanted to look at the gun and he answered "OK, but to really appreciate this gun you have to see the slide rails and the fit inside--here, lemme strip it down!"
He did, and the inside is nearly flawless. You can tell that the finish is slightly lighter on the slide rails, but the wear is slight. The outside of the barrel looks almost new. Everything else looks perfect, so I plunked down cash and filled out the forms before anybody else could.

Now all I have to do is wait four friggin' days because the third day fell on his day off--grrrr. I HATE waiting periods. A pox on Sarah Brady. I bought a case and a .45 snapcap today after work and that quieted the urges somewhat, then I downloaded an owner's manual from Sig and that seems to help a little too--my hands have stopped shaking. Next I need some ammo and another mag, but I'm going to try to wait 'till Saturday to get those. I know I'm rambling now but I'm hyped! And none of my co-workers seemed too happy with the idea--one even suggested something about "shiny things after it" which he then explained was supposed to mean that "the cops will be after you." Still haven't figured out what the Hell he's talking about. Seeya.

Hello, Mr. Gwinn. Congratulations on your P220 buy. I like single-action semiautos best of all, but do have a P220 that I intend to keep. It's proven reliable and very, very accurate. The DA pull is very usable and the single-action is great. Again, I'm not a particularly strong SIG-Sauer fan, but they do seem to work. I think you'll really like and use your gun. I share your sentiment concerning Sarah Brady and that whole bunch.
Best and good shooting.

Just purchased a used 220 from gunsamerica, was my first cyber purchase. Was satisfied with the deal. First time out, made 1 ragged hole with 5 shots at 10yds. Wish the grips were as thick as the P226.

Good for you! The 220 is the most accurate DA .45ACP I have ever owned. I could kick myself for selling mine.

Good things come to those who put the needs of others above their wants. I'm glad this has finally worked out for you.

Good Shooting

One more thing, you're gonna love having that .45ACP Power. Just look at the size of that slug and feel how heavy a 50 round box of ammo is compared to other calibers!

I'll take eight 230 grain Federal Hydrashoks over 15 JHP's from a 9mm anytime, any place and anywhere........Uh-oh! I feel the heat of the flames already!

See ya!

I have one of the early imports - has Browning all over it - but I love it. Big, bulky, but lighter than a Gov. model. It works (have never had a jam) and is almost as accurate as a (really good) Gold Cup I have.

I still shoot it once a month or so. But I practice mostly with what I carry - which is a stubby .45. I'm scrawney and it's just too big for carry in East Texas heat.

If I were in a state which allowed open carry for normal non-hunting out-door activities I'd probably give it the nod over a standard size 1911.

I've had it most of two decades and have no intention of letting it go.

I've often comtemplated some of the other Sigs - but just can't grit my teeth and abide the price when there is so much other stuff waiting to be adopted. (The $350 I paid new pales compared to current prices.)

Enjoy.

Congrats Don! The P220 is a fine weapon. I owned one for many years and she never hiccuped once :)
mine was very, very accurate, but, alas, I just cannot shoot the DA/SA autos as well as I'd like to.

sig P220, 3000 rounds and still shooting, with no malfuctions, and right on target at 20 yards. perfect handgun weapon. like a glove.

Don,

Congratulations on your P220. Ot sounds like you get a pistol that's in very good condition. You'll love it. It's one of the most accurate 45s I've ever fired. Let us know how it goes at the range,

So many pistols, so little money.

Congratulations on your new 'baby'. I have four SIGs (3-9mm, 1-.380), all have been great and absolutely reliable. May have to add a 220 to the 'family' sometime soon. Good luck, hope she serves you well. M2

The P220 is what turned me onto Sigs. The bad part is that you'll want to get the others. Providing you didn't get a lemon, the P220 is IMHO the most accurate out-of-the-box .45 you can get and you don't need to do any mods to it to shoot great and function right. Treat it right and it will treat you right. Those full-length frame rails are pretty interesting, eh? Have fun.

Still got 3 days before I can pick it up. I'm thinking I'll call dad and we'll go pick it up, then put it through its paces at the new range. Not a long drive once you've already driven out to the gun store. This should be a lot of fun!
Then, I think the next defensive pistol class is in two weeks--I'll be in it. Damn you, Sarah Brady!

Don,

Congratulations on your P-220. I absolutely love mine. Over two thousand rounds (mostly various manufacturers' 230 grain FMJ) through it and not one problem. It is also very accurate. Only deficiency is the seven round magazine; wish Sig would make a ten rounder.

Regards.

Gwinny,
New sheepskin, new wife, new apartment, new gun... you're on a ROLL!

RWK that's what I've been saying. Make the grip dimension the same as the very comfortable P226 and squeeze 3 more rounds into her. Although I love the 220, many people feel that for its size it is giving up a lot considering the competition(HK,Glock, not to mention other compact .45's). I would get a ten round 220.

I don't really feel like the capacity is that low for what I want to do with it. I plan to pick up a couple of 8-rd mags as I see them for decent prices; then I'll have 9 rds of actual capacity with one in the chamber, and I feel pretty good about that. If I were a cop (IOW crazy enough to chase malevolent pack animals into dark alleys) I might feel differently. But I reason that I would have been perfectly happy with a 1911, so I probably don't care enough about capacity to make it an issue.

I hope you like yours as much as I like mine ! I actually think it fits me better than the 226 that I shoot too.
It only took one Glock to get me buying SIGs ;)

Congratulations Don, I'm sure you will have
many hours of enjoyment with your new P220.
They are a form of craftsmanship at it's finest. :D Highly accurate and very reliable,
right out of the box! Enjoy your new toy.

Better watch out, Don. A SIG-Sauer P220 is an outstanding pistol. but you my find out that you just bought Melissa's P220! Better start looking around for another one for your self!

Good luck and good shooting1

Hard Ball

The 220 was my first SIG and it surely does make you want another one. They do run a little more than some other guns but a Mercedes costs more than a VW so, hey.

Mine is fine shooting, pointing, handling and has eaten everything I've put through it. The only thing that I really had to get used to was the magazine. On mine at least it has to be slammed into place. If not, it will fail to chamber and drop right out. Now, I just slam the thing home and go on about my business.

I agree that you give up some rounds having only 8 but hey if you're as good a shot as I am that's all you need for the first 8 BGs. Then you switch clips and get the rest. ;0 :D

You'll enjoy the P220. Let us all know how things go for you.
