Bought a "new" XD(m) that doesn't seem really new, can I ask for my money back?

Settle down. It's hilarious that people think a complaint to the BBB is a BFD.

Any reputable business or reputable business person considers a complaint with the BBB to be a BFD, as you so charmingly phrase it. Any man worth a spit cares deeply about his good name.

And the business he bought from is clearly not. :p The female owner's comments are what make me HIGHLY think they knew about it.

They showed their word is crap when the misrepresented the firearm as NIB. My theory is they had a new or like new XdM and ended up with some cheaper aftermarket sights around the shop. Rather than just selling them, they slapped them on his gun and tried to pass them off as factory ones for more money.

Please Keep Us Updated ThomasH !

I just read your thread and it resonated deeply with me.

I buy and sometimes trade handguns with a very large local gunshop. Quite a bit. We have a good relationship and I'm satisfied with the pricing I get.

When I trade, I return the original box, papers, handgun lock, instruction manual, extra mags, everything is returned just like brand new.

(I'm rethinking this. I don't plan to trade anything soon but if I do, I'll leave out some crucial component to insure that my pistol can't be sold as new.)

And the pistols themselves that I have returned and traded are just like NIB. Maybe 1000 rds put through them.

Recently I was at the aforementioned gunshop and saw one of my pistols for sale (a high end 1911) in the new gun case.

I carefully asked the retail help about it's status and no one could answer me.

This huge gun dealer was selling my pistol as new and at a price 200 dollars higher than the retail price of the pistol.

I'd noticed this before with another really fine 1911 I'd traded with them.

I suspect what the other posters have mentioned -- your pistol was a trade-in and not new.

The gunshop I'm talking about has a 30 day guarantee in addition to the manufacturer's warranty.

I'd suggest you demand your money back in cash.

Tell them you don't want to go legal but are prepared to.

If necessary, I wouldn't hesitate to mention that you have a lot of friends at a lot of different gun forums who love to read about good and bad gunshops.;)

Good luck, keep us updated.

I got my money back!

Hi gang!

Well, to One Shot's credit, they gave me a full refund with no hassle! Woohoo!

I did get a tongue-lashing about embarrassing the shop with Springfield with my "incessant phone calls"! (I only called twice, or three times if you count that I called twice on the 28th!)

Bottom line, I am perfectly satisfied. I don't think they changed the sights, or why would they have sent it to Springfield for a warranty repair?

So no complaints to the BATF, BBB, AG and so forth! All settled!

(Moderators - feel free to close this thread, nothing to see here, move along!)

P.S. And thanks again for all your support and advice folks! It really helped me feel I was in the right! :)

Glad you got your money back. I still wouldn't buy anymore guns there. Their snide comments are unprofessional and I still think they had some knowledge of it.

I agree. Find a more reputable business to spend your hard earned mney!!

Glock religious wars. Oh, joy. (deep sigh)

:p

Actually, you might want to consider getting an XD-M, but from somebody else. My husband bought one a year ago; it was the first handgun he'd ever bought. A year later, he loves it. It's a fine gun, well and precisely built with excellent fit and finish. At distances where other people shoot good groups, he shoots ragged holes, and while some of that is due to his being an excellent shot all around, some of it is also due to this being an excellent gun.

Nothing against Glocks, mind you. But Springfield makes some *nice* semiautomatics, and this is by all accounts one of their best.

Well Thomas, I know it's a little drive, but I can tell you for sure my favorite gun shop, Olde English just North of Dayton will give you a square deal and treat you right.

As for the claims that night sights don't work, maybe not for that poster but I personally like them. And Trijicon makes the best I know of. If they work so poorly, why are the police department pistols equipped with them?

"I did get a tongue-lashing about embarrassing the shop with Springfield "

They have a lot of damn nerve to criticize you about anything at all. I'd still be there up their faces letting them have a large piece of my mind about their business practices. Oh right, blame the customer for them being shady liars and cheats.

JT

Wow they gave YOU a talk!? WOW... Thats some nerve. One Shot will never get my business as unlikely as that would ever be in the first place! You should call Springfield again. Complain to them about the store once more! :D

A quick search on a gun website seems that Springfield includes a designator in the Model number to indicate factory nite sights.

XDM9389BTHC SPG XDM 9MM PST 3.8B 19RD NS
verses
XDM9389BHC SPG XDM 9MM PST 3.8B 19RD FS

So it appears that the "T" indicates Night sights with over $100 MSRP difference.

Just something to watch out for on the original packing.

Not in this case but don't give this bit "customers not being shady liars" Give me a brake, "customers always right" I see on a daily bases, thieving, conniving, looking for something for nothing people. But as far as business doing the right thing all the time, for get it you should know better that's not going to happen.

Hi folks!

Some great remarks! :D You folks are fun!

I did call Springfield (from my car) as soon as I left the store. Mostly to tell them that I would not be deciding which night sights to put on the gun (they offered me the choice of the lower-profile Springfield style or the squarer Trijicon sights with the white rings), since the gun was no longer mine. And while I was talking to them I relayed the recent events at the store as well!

And yesterday after work, I drove up to my favorite local gun shop (Shooter's Supply in Loveland OH). Very laid back for a gun shop, especially Dan, whom I asked to see if he could locate an XD(m) .40 with night sights! He'll check today and let me know. We joked about whether they would be Springfield or aftermarket!

n7qvu, thanks for the tip on the part number, I will check for the "T" on my next night-sighted purchase for sure!

Next, I'll have to get an XD(m) 9mm, then I'll have a full set! :p Woohoo!
