Steel pan and my Ruger® Blackhawk® in 41 Remington® Magnum. The load would be Underwood®265 Grain Lead Wide Long Nose Gas Check.
 
Plastic is a better pan

Plastic pans are black or green, easier to see the gold.

The plastic pan have ridges molded in to trap the gold better. I have used both, and greatly prefer the plastic pan.

My big boomer handgun is single shot, so my trusty plastic fantastic G19 for a sidearm.
 
Finally- a plastic guy! :)
Those ridges are handy, and color stands out much better on a black one.
We've got both, black & green, and one lone vintage steeler.


Last time I was out looking for shiny stuff was in Idaho, with a custom 4-inch blue engraved .44 Mag Ruger Redhawk.
Thought I'd go in style. :)

Metal pan for all the above reasons. My ruger Single Six 32 mag with a selection of ammo in 32 long and 32 mag. The 32 mag is a good SD round especially from a 5.5" barrel and the 32 long stuff is just fine for small game shooting. I wouldn't have a problem using the 32 mag round on a close range deer. I don't worry about bears.:D
 
I’m going with a GP-100 Match Champion .357 (and a Lever action likewise chambered to go along). I was going to suggest steel for the cooking aspect, but would defer to others with more experience and go with plastic for the visibility. I guess I’ll need to take some real cookware along.
 
If establishing a gold claim along a back-country river, which revolver would you take, and which pan would you use- plastic or steel?

If you're going to do something that traditional, the revolver has to be a 45 Colt single action and the pan has to be steel. (smile)

I had to laugh last night, because I watched a movie called "Jungle" and there was a scene where the characters were panning for gold.
But I was wearing my normal boonie and my Ruger Service Six snub nose, so I was reminded of this thread and the one in Semi Auto of the Amazon!LOL


....so does wearing the equipment and just watching a movie about panning gold or being in the jungle count? And this is a good thread because we are close to Holloween.
 
I wouldn't expect to pan for gold in a jungle river, but Hollywood's never wrong....
Were they using plastic or steel?

Enough fun for now! These threads don't fit in the overall mission of TFL. We let them run for awhile to see how they would track, but it's clear that for the most part, the posts are mostly noise with very little signal value. There are a few exceptions, of course, but not enough to keep the threads open.
