Flash-retardant powders have been around for quite a while.
If you do some research, I imagine you can come up with some choices for loading your own stuff. :)

I have a Cobra .38 special derringer. Swapping it for a Davis derringer in .22 mag tomorrow. The Davis fits my need better. ATV gun that'll livein a fender bag.

Bought a Bond Cowboy Defender in 9mm a few years ago because I thought it would be cool to own one and it might have some use for defensive carry on dog walks ... the bloom was off the rose very quickly; while the quality is excellent, it has a ton of major drawbacks ... 1. For a gun with only two rounds, it weights a ton. 2. Cocking is an effort and has, of course, to be done with each round. 3. Reloading is slow and if the cases don't drop free (I always had at least one hang up), the process is even slower. 4. With a tiny grip, accuracy is iffy and I had to regrip after each round. Finally traded it, it was in my local gun shop's used case for a year or so. As a range toy, they're ok; my dog walk gun is now an NAA Pug ... five rounds of 45gr Hornady Critical Defense is more valuable, to me, than two rounds of 9mm ... IMHO, o'course ...

Got my .22 mag Davis derringer. Its a single-purpose gun. To be kept loaded with snakeshot and it lives on my ATV. I'll carry a wallet with a half-dozen JHPs and some spare shot loads.

Won't need more than two shots with snakeshot on a rattler inside two yards anyway.
