Bolt/ single shot action rifle

I don't know of a GOOD single shot rifle on the market today.

doesn't any of the european brands make it across the pond?

Blaser, merkel, haenel and plenty of others

Bergara to nowadays

there are plenty of other makers, but these aren't cheap

Just my thoughts: It's hard to get a break action rifle to shoot as accurately as a bolt action. I base this on owning and shooting 5-6 different H&R and Rossi single shots vs numerous bolt actions of various makes

you can't judge break actions based on midlevel/cheap rifles

New England Arms and Rossi make single shot rifles in various calibers. They are youth guns but adults can handle them well without an extension on the stock butt. Others will disagree with me that they are of good quality but that wasn't my experience for the Rossi 243 and NE Arms .223 I recently sold.

No matter what you choose you will hear something bad about it if you "patrol" the Internet much. Browning, Remington, Winchester, Ruger, Savage all have fans and naysayers, and all are perfectly good rifles. Handle as many as you can, at some point you will realize that there is one you keep coming back to.
