Bolt gun in 7.62x39?

Ruger makes a .357 bolt. you could be firing .38 specials at about a quarter apiece, and using .357 whenever you choose.

The .357 is powerful and versatile out of a rifle, and .38 SWC light loads are even fine on rabbit.

I'm not going to suggest the thing for deer. Big deer or long range are stretching the limits, and unless you are an expert shot, you may be pushing the limitations of the cartridge.

I've always felt that a .357 with a tubular magazine, like the old .22 rifles, would make a great week in the field rifle. Load on friday, day, shoot until monday.

Australian International Arms 'Improved Enfield' Rifles

There is a company called "Special Interest Arms" making 7.62x39 conversions for Enfield rifles, using single stack AK mags.

Been thinking about them for a while, making a Jungle-Carbine-ish rifle out of a basket-case No4, with the barrel threaded for a AR type flash hider. Aside from being a cheap to shoot, handy, fun little gun, it would be a good first centerfire rifle for my son.

Quite a few options out there. I'm definitly wanting a bolt and something inexpensive. I'm gonna scan the classifieds for the CZ527. The more vids I see the more I want to check one out in person. I have a small stash set aside and I'm gonna go look this weekend, of course I've been trying to find a true Marlin 336 too so I'll have to see how that works out. :D

Bamaranger,
I didnt know the Frontier was ever chambered in 7.62x39, I got one in .308 Winchester. I do know that Ruger had their compact rifle chambered for the x 39 Cartridge, but dont know if they still do.

Same as MB Deux. And I also agree that if you see one, buy it!

The Aussie Enfield is the rifle that has given me the most FUN shooting long guns in a long time.

When this became available I jumped fast. Mine also came with the removable cheek piece for scope use.

100yd. Target does not do the gun justice,as I had forgotten my bags and rest that day and made do with rolled up car mats. Even with the ball ammo, this gun shoots.

The rifle is hefty with the teak wood stock, but brings the recoil down to the .223 area.

Been looking for another for my nephew, as his 12th birthday is in July and he has been hinting (using an Australian accent when we talk on the phone) that he wants mine!
Family, what are you gonna do. That boy is gonna just have to learn to share.
