bolt action .22LR

Jhans, as I said in my second reply on this topic, the upper end mark ii's are nice rifles. Anytime someone on this website speaks ill of savage, guys like you and a couple others in this thread jump all over them. You guys are not paying attention to what he asked for when he stated, "my budget is limited". With an msrp of $484, do you believe the btvs falls into his price range? Personally, I doubt that it does. If telling the honest truth about my experiences with the lower end savage mark ii's makes me a "hater" then so be it. I listened to guys like you when I made my purchase. I wish there had been a guy like me to tell me the rest of the story.

It is a good .22 for the price. Better stock trigger than most and more accurate. I don't like the feel of their synthetic stocks, I prefer their wood stocks.

Boys, I bought the Savage Mark II with scope and accutrigger around Halloween at Dick's on special. It's fun to shoot and is a great rifle to teach my grandchildren how to shoot. The quality is just fine, the action is smooth, and the accuracy of the rifle is certainly better than the variability of my shooting.

+ 1 on CZ 452 Varmint (+ AS adjustable sear) or CZ 453 Varmint.
Had a Savage (Dick' sporting goods special wiht Blue Heavy barrel). Sold it after a year.
No experience with the 455.

The Savage Mark II with the accu-trigger is generally very accurate. Many don't like the Savage composite stocks. I have a walnut stocked Mark II and like it just fine!

Didn't read much and you can go either way with a Savage, Marlin, CZ as all are great rifles. I would say there were a few posters doing a disservice to people though. When someone posts a question they are usually looking to hear ALL opinions on it, good or bad. Just because someone only has a negative experience doesn't mean their opinion is not wanted by the potential purchaser. Giving another rifle option isn't required either. In fact for someone looking at purchasing a rifle the negative opinions should be more wanted than the positive. 600 posts of "love my rifle, it's a tack driver, more accurate than me....blah blah blah" really means nothing if you suppress anyone who has anything negative to say. Keep on riding that high horse.

I bought a Savage Mark II with accurtrigger and put a cheap Simmons 3x9 .22 mag scope on it. It shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards with just about any ammo I put in it.

It is not as pretty as my Cooper 17HMR, but it shoots just as good and the whole set up was a total of 322.00, while the Cooper was 1,700 without a scope or rings.

If you are looking for a cheap, accurate plinking .22, the Savage is hard to beat. It is not as pretty as many others, but it is very functional.
