Bloomberg Targets Kroger

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Michael Bloomberg and his group Moms Demand Action are targeting the nation’s largest supermarket chain, Kroger. Obviously the groups have won some minor victories as other companies like Target and Starbucks have asked customers not to bring weapons into the stores. However, neither retailer has been very aggressive about enforcing this policy.

Kroger has shown little interest stating, “Millions of customers are present in our busy grocery stores every day and we don't want to put our associates in a position of having to confront a customer who is legally carrying a gun. We know that our customers are passionate on both sides of this issue and we trust them to be responsible in our stores.”

I’m not sure what action if any we need to take. This might be a situation where our best response is no response. All we need is some simpleton attempting to make a statement supporting the Second Amendment by carrying a rifle into the local grocery store. At the end of the day Kroger just wants to sell milk and eggs not engage in this debate.

Good for Kroger, I hope they can maintain a neutral position and
not knuckle under to the Boomberg pressure .

This will be the big question. The Moms plan to conduct targeted social media campaigns and then hold protest outside stores including a lot of misinformation. Sadly some firearms enthusiasts have provided negative images by entering retail stores with rifles slung over their shoulders.

While it may not work I believe the tactic of focusing their efforts on middle of the road Mothers is a good one and could hurt us in the long run. Again, I’m not sure of the best way to counter these efforts, but we need to be careful not to play into their hands as they have no fear of misrepresenting us and anything we say.

Towards Kroger? Nothing.

Towards Watkins, Grisham, and the rest of their crowd? We need to tell them to knock it off. Starbucks, Chipotle, and Target were enough.

The callous depravity of a group that would have Kroger employees engage in confrontations with customers carrying firearms, to further their own ends, is appalling, to me.

Maybe we could find an email for kroger corporate and thank them for standing up for all customers rights including ours?
That approach doesn't seem to work. It didn't avail us with the other retailers I mentioned.

All the goodwill emails we send (which really won't be that many) will be drowned out by the postcard campaigns from MDA and the "you facsists violated mah raaaghts" rants from supposedly pro-gun folks.

Kroger is big in Georgia. Guns are loved in Georgia. Bloomberg isn't from anywhere near Georgia....

I get a huge laugh when Big-City Yankees (like Bloomberg) think they know squat about the rest of the country outside of the steel and glass sky boxes we keep them warehoused in.:D

While I agree that Bloomberg’s anti-gun message may not play well around the State of Georgia keep in mind over half the population lives in the metro-Atlanta area. So, if you consider the people who already support more gun control, the ones who vote blindly for candidates who support gun control and the Moms succeed in flipping a few more you might be surprised how quickly guns become unloved. I suspect the good people of Colorado never expected these ridiculous new restrictions. Let’s not take these people for granted they have deep pockets and friends in high places.

Yep, but if Kroger passes a no-gun policy because of some situation in Texas, it does affect its customers in Georgia. The same thing happened with Target and Starbucks: the fallout isn't limited to cities in which Bloomberg exerts influence.

We may be seeing more 30.06 signs in TX because of the OC 'movement'. Some of the signs are accurate in text but not size. Thus, we chortle that they are not compliant. However, they may discourage folks from carry as they don't want to be the test case for compliance procedures. The sign was designed to be obnoxious. I wouldn't surprised if someone didn't suggest that the sign size requirement be modified and that includes OC of rifles. Given the display of idiocy - it might pass.

Given the handling of long arms, I've seen - I totally understand the store and patrons point of view.

Steven4102- the pics you post. I have always wondered what is wrong with these people. They act like a child in a store when you say they can't have the toy. They destroy everything good people try to build up. They are children in full grown bodies. Babies, idiots and morons. Makes you just want to grab them by the shirt and tell them to grow up or better yet send them to their room.

Makes you wonder if you told them they have to carry if they would leave them at home, ya know that child mentality thing we all learn when we have children.

This is kind of funny.
I used to shop in the local Kroger store, called Food-4-Less. I was shopping one evening legally carrying a holstered 1911. The manager said it made a customer nervous and asked if I would take it out to my car. I took it out to the car and came back to finish shopping. I was a regular at that store and the manager had asked me about it on at least one other occasion so I assumed it was not an issue. A couple weeks later I was shopping early in the day and the day manager called the police. I was met by half a dozen officers as I exited. They determined that I was legal and sent me along. I later asked the manager about it and he said it was corporate policy: no guns. I called their corporate office and they confirmed that they did not want customers carrying guns.

So, now it's okay? Too bad, I don't shop there any more.

Friendly Fire

This topic is somewhat related to the present thread.
The media as influenced by political leanings is able to present twisted images of events related to guns, but do not correct themselves when confronted with the truth.
I found this article quite interesting. If the mods don't think so, just delete it. The Southeastern part of Wisconsin seems to run by people who oppose the ownership of firearms....with the exception of the Sheriff of Milwaukee County.
