and you believed him...

Never said I believed him, I said "I duno".

I said I changed the signs. It eliminated an unnecessary "road side" confrontation with a LEO. An LEO that has the ability to ruin my "opening Day Hunt" and screw up a years worth of planning. Kinda like not pissing off a cop on the sidewalk or in a traffic stop that wishes to violate your Carry rights cuz he/she can.

Sorry, my bad, I stand (sit, actually) corrected.

And I do get it, pointing out how an officer is wrong, in some minor thing, at the cost of something more important, is foolish.

Because usually, they don't like it, and poking the bear just for fun, is stupid.

So you're telling us that your story really had nothing to do with whether posting a property No Hunting actually, legally prohibits the owner from hunting . . .

I'm telling you that an LEO an "Authority"in my uneducated mind, told me that I could not hunt my own land if I posted it no hunting!!!

I'm telling you that I did not know if he was correct and I had to do as this "Authority" in my feeble mind, directed or else.

I'm telling you that I chose to change the signs and continue on with my hunting without being harassed by an LEO whether he be correct or not.

I'm telling you that this post.

May have been generated by a similar LEO in a similar situation.

I'm telling you what happened to me and what this LEO "Authority" told me was the law.

Take it for what it's worth or not, I don't really care. It happened, I did what I did to defuse the situation.

There's a practical wisdom in humoring a LEO, even one that is mistaken or doesn't want to "waste time" ascertaining the facts. Spats' putative response also works where the LEO has overstepped. The explanation that he was too busy to listen to you explain that you were on your own property would impress any judge.

You might want to get the real answer in your state for a practical reason. I think a "No Trespassing" sign is a less pointed communication than a "No Hunting" sign, even if one would need to trespass in order to hunt. Communication is most valuable when it is clear.

In my state, one would need written permission of the land owner to hunt where a "No hunting" sign is posted, so I might suggest putting your "No Hunting" signs back, and hunting with a copy of your deed next year.

However, you really want to find out how it works in your state. I would start with the central office for the conservation authority to determine what their own position really is.

My two cents.
