Bling Your Sling

My stuff pales in comparison to some of the sailors stuff I've seen pictures of. Mine aren't for survival purposes. Just didn't like many slings at the store for the prices.

I wanted to do a rifle stock like they do some of those boat oars. For one, I could not figure out a way to do and remain useful.

Frankly Savage, give a rudimentary guide on how to do it, and I would sticky this puppy. Very nice. You too rick, the shoulder pad is pretty cool

Ok I watched the videos, that method looks pretty cool too.

One trick that I discovered: when you are finished weaving or braiding, take a hot iron after it, that will really help the uniformity of the appearance.
I did that to the one on the shotgun, but the other one hasn't gotten that treatment. I'm still experimenting with adjustable aspects of it.

Here's another view with a touch on the grip.

Ok here's a fully adjustable paracord sling, with a sliding shoulder pad.

A little gawdy but hey paracord sling, you gotta go all out LOL.

Ok,
Added the woven strap to the middle of the pad to help hold it in place.

Need a little more tucking and trimming but you can get the idea.

You can't use that paracord to make a loop sling like you can do with a good leather or web sling.

Sure you can. You just need to keep the weave tight. If it's tight there is no stretch in it. Another thing you can do is steam the cord as you work making it slightly moist. When it dries it is very tight.

I'm not ready to toss out any of my leather or web slings but a paracord sling is a cool idea. A hand crafted and personalized sling that's a one of a kind. what's wrong with that?

I've used paracord to cover floated AR tubes for temp control. Those aluminum tubes get real cold sometimes.

I imagine that unlike a canvas or nylon websling, a paracord sling would not be a very useful shooting aid.

Has anyone here used a paracord sling as a shooting aid versus using it just as a carry aid?

If not adjustable, you are stuck with what you got. If you managed to make it the right length it would work. The one like you pictured may not be very comfortable. The first ones I made were not adjustable.

I am now experimenting with ways to adjust them. All of mine are flat. The last one posted is adjustable and I have used it as a shooting aid. I also went out of my way to make it gawdy, LOL... the best way for me to get the feel of different braids and knots is to just include them all on a sling and evaluate the differences. Eventually, I will settle on one particular pattern.

The slings that are tied to unravel will be stretchy, mine aren't.

I mean a loop sling, not a hasty sling. Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't see how you can do that with the slings in the original post.

You're right, probably would have to make a purpose built sling for a loop support. Can be used as a hasty sling if the right length.
