Blackhawk Convertible

I confess I tend to use similar loads of Universal with my 250 SWC bullets in .45 Colt in my convertible NMBH, but more than the Colt cases I tend to use .45AR in a modified .45 ACP cylinder. The .45 AR cases are the same size as the ACP cases, but they have a thick rim. I find the AR cases cycle a bit more smoothly in my guns and since I am using fairly light range loads, I feel better about small charges of fast powder in the smaller case.

Even though I have large hands, I find the factory grips bigger than I prefer. They are also tapered in the wrong direction for me. I prefer Eagle Gunfighter grips; checkered for low recoil applications; smooth for heavy recoil guns.

Some folk think it’s almost a sacrilege to put anything BUT wood grips on a .45 Colt but I shot a Blackhawk with Pachmayr grips and it sure felt nice round after round.

I’m sure there are other folks here that will be able to point you to some wood grips that will do the job too and look better on the gun.

Not sure I'd call it sacrilege but I prefer the look of wood or maybe stag later on down the line if I can swing the cash for them.

Grips

I too once had a convertible Blackhawk, made in the, "200th year...." etc. Being a reloader from the beginning, I never did use the ACP cylinder. But since we've drifted a little towards grips; my take on it is that grips that contrast with the metal look strikingly nice. Like Ivory on blued steel and black Buffalo horn or Ebony on Nickel or stainless. That being said, where can I get black Ebony grips for my original Vaquero? On the load note: 9.5 grains Unique and 255 grain Lee RNFP shoots very well in mine, though it may be a little over maximum for older Colts and the like.
