Black-T vs Ceracoat

Roguard is decent but nowhere near as tough as NP3... No personal experience with Black T.

What is it that you're looking for? Something in black? If so, I would probably recommend just getting black Titanium Nitride.

I think you illustrate that a certain percentage of consumers will just accept and live with it, I'm not one of those types of consumers, and thankfully, most respectable vendors don't apply any finish that would live down to your expectations as a matter of course...

I would opine this percentage is quite large, and following your logic to its conclusion, most suggested finishes will also likely disappoint you.

Robar NP3 is a pretty popular finish for P7s and supposed to be pretty tough, not a huge fan of their color selection though.

I remain intrigued by Black-T, its a co-polymer something or other, the reason I am intrigued is that the originator, Walter Birdsong(now deceased)claimed he had never had to warranty a firearm, meaning that it had never failed.

A man can claim a lot of things.

True. I did have Robar do a HK P2000 in NP3 Plus and that finish seemed very resilient as well as a breeze to clean and essentially self lubricating. If the OP wants a black finish then Robar also has the newer Poly T2 that comes in a number of non-silver colors:

Exactly, a black carry finish, I gave the ceracoat a shot but its just incapable of maintaining its continuity, I've found it to be way overrated and just as overpriced. I have a Beretta 92A1 that has been plated in NP3+, its a very neat finish, and extremely corrosion resistant, but its also very expensive, my 92A1 cost me $400.00. One other thing, NP3 and all nickle plating done to firearms for that matter, are quite soft, they are harder then the substrate, but nowhere near the hardness of hard chrome. One of the things Robar did was to strip off the hard coat anodize on the frame before applying the nickle/teflon, hard coat anodize rockwells around .60 - .65, the NP3 around .54 or so. One of the things I've noted about my NP3 finished 92A1 is that its contact points, those areas that come into direct contact with the Aker holster I carry it in, have polished, evidence of its softness, but as things are proving out, thats still a hell of an improvement over a finish that deconstructs between the shop and delivery back to your home!

Well, again, I'll say.... just get black TiN and be done with it.

This is who I used. I've had them do a couple of barrels. I also referred Constantine to them for the controls on his Sig since he was having problems with rust just about daily(Miami). He's also a happy camper. They do good work at some of the best pricing I've found on TiN service.

Like I said. Poly T2 from Robar.
