Well here's my suggestion. The Spanish have a towed 203mm/45cal gun made by SITECSA. It ranges to 40km with ERFB(Extended Range Full Bore) and 50km with ERFB-BB (ERFB-Base Bleed) mount this on a M1A chassis (maybe with the diesel insteads of gas turbine)and have integral muzzle velocity measuring radar on mount. Maybe on board atmospheric sensors/maybe millimetric radar. Maybe take the navigation and plotting stuff off the german PzH2000(my vote for the most advanced current system) Have automatic loading equipment on board. Maybe 30 rds on the vehicle with a support vehicle on the same chassis, organic to the unit 1/1 ratio. Automatic shell passing from loading vehicle to gun vehicle. Must be rifled tube for accuracy. Each vehicle must be able to operate as an independant unit in direct support of a manuver element, so all the fire control equipment must be on vehicle. Figure 2 or 3 rounds per minute. 8 inch round weighs 200-220 pounds. Standard family of shells (HE common, DPICM, WP, ILLUM, SADARM, chem, nuclear, FASCAM)Multipupose fuze like on the 60mm mortar. The base bleed unit should be threaded so the crew can screw it on or off as needed. Max vehicle weight: less than 55,000kg. Armoured vs small arms and shell fragments, top armour vs bomblets, maybe spaced reactive? That's my design. Semper Fi....
