Did you ever check to see if there's a European distributor that could have gotten you a newer blued Smith & Wesson to shoot

Yes. I didn't contact him, but I think one particular distributor I know would have been able to import the gun. It's a pity I didn't see the new black revolvers earlier.

Why did your gunsmith use polygonal rifling in a .44 Magnum barrel? I'm curious about that choice.

The revolver needed a new barrel, and I had the dream to own a gun with polygonal rifling. So it came together^^

What do you plan to shoot in it?
Mainly 44 special, but I think it’s nice keeping the ability to shoot 44 magnum
 
Hmmm.
I wouldn't choose polygonal, but then it's not my gun. :)
It may or may not shoot lead as well as conventional rifling, if you intend to shoot lead.
Good luck with it all. I suspect you'll have a very expensive gun by the time you're done.
