Bin Laden Gets a Pass from Pakistan

If this doesn't upset you - nothing will. Bush and Co. - since 9/11 - have been propping up Musharraf's military regime with $3.6 billion in economic aid from the U.S. and a U.S.-sponsored consortium, not to mention $900 million in military aid and the postponement of overdue debt repayments totaling $13.5 billion. I'm sure our President is on top of the story below and will deal with it - right after hell freezes over.

Bin Laden Gets a Pass from Pakistan

Osama bin Laden, America's most wanted man, will not face capture in Pakistan if he agrees to lead a "peaceful life," Pakistani officials tell ABC News.

The surprising announcement comes as Pakistani army officials announced they were pulling their troops out of the North Waziristan region as part of a "peace deal" with the Taliban.

If he is in Pakistan, bin Laden "would not be taken into custody," Major General Shaukat Sultan Khan told ABC News in a telephone interview, "as long as one is being like a peaceful citizen."

Bin Laden is believed to be hiding somewhere in the tribal areas of Pakistan, near the Afghanistan border, but U.S. officials say his precise location is unknown.

In addition to the pullout of Pakistani troops, the "peace agreement" between Pakistan and the Taliban also provides for the Pakistani army to return captured Taliban weapons and prisoners.

"What this means is that the Taliban and al Qaeda leadership have effectively carved out a sanctuary inside Pakistan," said ABC News consultant Richard Clarke, the former White House counter-terrorism director.

The agreement was signed on the same day President Bush said the United States was working with its allies "to deny terrorists the enclaves they seek to establish in ungoverned areas across the world."

The Pakistani Army had gone into Waziristan, under heavy pressure from the United States, but faced a series of humiliating defeats at the hands of the Taliban and al Qaeda fighters.

"They're throwing the towel," said Alexis Debat, who is a Senior Fellow at the Nixon Center and an ABC News consultant. "They're giving al Qaeda and the Taliban a blank check and saying essentially make yourselves at home in the tribal areas," Debat said

We should declare war on them. They harbor a terrorist, and steal our money. That money was pretty much a bribe for Osama; because both the U.S. and Pakistan know he's there. Now that they "cashed the check" and still owe debt, they decide to screw us over. "Nuh uh". That doesn't fly.

Bin Laden's been dead for a while. How many Dialysis machines do you think really exist in 'tribal' pakistan, much less the mountains of tora bora.

And besides, we would never kill Osama, we're still in a working relationship with his parents. What kind of business partners would we be then? That'd be rude...And then we might not get our Afghan pipeline...(oops, what afghan pipeline, that's wasn't in the NEWS!)

Their have been confirmed tapes from bin Laden in recent months. He's alive; somehow. When our own intelligence says its real (when they would love to be able say he's dead), chances are it is authentic.

My take on it...

but U.S. officials say his precise location is unknown.

That's CRAP, we probably have tabs on him all the time, come on we've got the most advanced military in the world. Also might I add, Pakistan was more of a reluctant ally seeing as the U.S. kinda pushing to use Pakistan for their operations. Also if we go to war with Pakistan well let's put it this way... suppose Musharaff decides to give Pakistani NUKES to the Taliban? Guess what? A fresh boiling hot pile of SHTF is going to happen. However that is just speculation of the worst case scenario, another possibility is that the Pakistanis will want a Taliban government if they're fed up with Musharaff as being a puppet to the Americans.

Either he's dead or he can move as freely as he wants. As long as we're getting our pipeline, he's safe. And as long as we keep dangling osama bin carrot, we'll keep plodding along.

Where did he go george, where did he go?

Were any of the 9/11 hijackers even trained in Afghanistan?

He is frozen in Chaney's basement. At the time of the election - in a month or so - he will be defrosted and strapped to a camel and let loose at Crawford. Bush will see a terrorist attack when he is clearing brush and decapitated the corpse with his axe and save America.

That makes as much sense as some of the scenarios. He got away because of a failure mission plan in Afghanistan. Same idiot planners for Iraq.

Let's go to war with Pakistan - 280,000,000 million folks with nukes. Sign up now.

We screwed the pooch when Pakistan was cooperating with us back then. Now we pay the price.

"We do know of certain knowledge that he [Osama Bin Laden] is either in Afghanistan, or in some other country, or dead." Donald Rumsfeld

What's our military intelligence's batting average right about now?
It is CIA's/ DIA's job (civilian) to keep tabs on him and try to learn his where abouts, not the Military Intelligence. Let's put the blame where it is supposed to be.;)

Is it possible this is a ploy to get him to move more freely?

could very well be, but if we thought about this angle you can bet he and his cronies did too.

another possibility is that the Pakistanis will want a Taliban government if they're fed up with Musharaff as being a puppet to the Americans.

This is what would be concerning me about this whole deal. Another Taliban regime would be total de-stabilization for the WOT, that region and our interests over there. Especially with a Taliban armed with Nukes. not a good thing.

Ok, I have a legitimate question for everyone.

What was the Mission plan for Afghanistan?

A) Fight terror where ever it is harbored.

B) Go get Osama.

C) Overthrow the taliban regime in favor of something more conducive to our 'interests'.

D) All of the above.

If you answered (D), please rank the previous answers in order of importance.

Assuming he needed the dialysis in the first place AND that it was a permanent issue rather than "acute", I would have to guess he's being harbored by them, out of Pakistan, or dead. Having watched the docs give my grandmother dialysis for an acute case of kidney failure shortly before her death recently, I can't imagine this being done often in primitive conditions. It's tough on the body and requires a lot of monitoring. Of course, dialysis isn't necessarily a permanent condition, he may have improved to the point of not needing it...

Looking at our great leaders statements (see below) on bin Laden for the answer, it appears the answer depends on the spin.

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him."
- G.W. Bush, 9/13/01

"I want justice...There's an old poster out West, as I recall, that said, 'Wanted: Dead or Alive,'"
- G.W. Bush, 9/17/01, UPI

"...Secondly, he is not escaping us. This is a guy, who, three months ago, was in control of a county [sic]. Now he's maybe in control of a cave. He's on the run. Listen, a while ago I said to the American people, our objective is more than bin Laden. But one of the things for certain is we're going to get him running and keep him running, and bring him to justice. And that's what's happening. He's on the run, if he's running at all. So we don't know whether he's in cave with the door shut, or a cave with the door open -- we just don't know...."
- Bush, in remarks in a Press Availablity with the Press Travel Pool,
The Prairie Chapel Ranch, Crawford TX, 12/28/01, as reported on
official White House site

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."
- G.W. Bush, 3/13/02

"I am truly not that concerned about him."
- G.W. Bush, repsonding to a question about bin Laden's whereabouts,
3/13/02 (The New American, 4/8/02)

So much for the coalition of the willing....

I'm waiting for the Bush cheering squad to be told what to think about this...I'm curious (in a morbid sorta way) to hear the spin.

Why must you take the opportunity to insight a senseless bicker-session between pro-Bush and anti-Bush crowds?

You didn’t contribute to the discussion. You’re laying the groundwork for Bush cheerleaders to clash with Bush bashers.

Time after time I see the same cohorts instigating the nonsense.

He also might not have been the central focus of our escapade in Afghanistan and he might be safer than gold in fort knox due to our dealings with his parents.

Our government also might be willing to use the story/image of Osama to further their own goals and he might not have had squat to do with 9/11. (Blasphemy! Burn the unbeliever!) World's just full of maybes :D

And of all my maybes, surely at least one of them must hit pretty close to mark. And even just one should turn the stomach of any good american. But good thing all I've got are hunches...
