Big Guns

I shoot 300 grain bullets at 1365 fps out of my 10" Encore in 44 magnum, and the kick is not bad at all.

Now in a long gun, I have a Winchester Mod. 70 in 416 Rem mag which does have some recoil. Standing it's not too bad, but off the bench I use a PAST Recoil Shield, and even with that, 15-20 rounds is plenty!

Well, I shot a S&W X-frame 460XVR 2.5" barrel (6 foot flame:eek:), so that is the bigger frame than the N-frame (44s,8x357,45acp), but I also shot a Ruger redhawk with a 8+" barrel shooting 240g +Ps.

Funny story, not sure if I'm wasting my time telling this, but I hope somebody appreciates it.

They made us shoot the 460 in the rifle range (50Y) after the first shot. I watched about 30 people turn there head's at once, it sounded like a nuclear explosion along with the flash of a 6' flame.

TBS, I'll never forget a father and his two sub two digits kids holding there cheap earmuffs when shooting 44mag +Ps. The kids will never forget me.:D

I like guns... big & little

Contender... most recoiling... custom 10" 45 Colt with hot loads... makes my knuckle bleed withing the 1st 6-8 shots... then next worse, is my unported 15" 375 Winchester barrel with max for the Contender loads, next is my 15" hunter barrel ( means ported ) in 45-70... totally a boomer but recoil is not as bad as the 2 listed previously

Semi Autos... worst recoil is my Automag 5, in 50 A.E. a much much lighter gun than the Desert Eagles... next is my Automag 4 in 10 mm Magnum with hot loads...

Revolvers... worst recoil is my Ruger Alaskan in 454 Casull with hot loads, next is probably my 357 super mag in my Dan Wesson, then probably my Dan Wesson snubbie in 44 Mag, then probably my 50 A.E. custom Black Hawk, then probably my S&W 610 in 10mm Magnum

note that barrel lengths & lack of compensation oftem move lesser calibers up higher on the recoil list

Two S&W .500 magnums
10 1/2" BFR .45-70
Desert Eagle with .50AE and .44 magnum barrels
Freedom Arms M555 .50AE/.500 Wyoming Express convertible
.475 Linebaugh on a Ruger Bisley frame by Ben Forkin
.480 Ruger Super Redhawk
Lots of .45 Colt, .44 mags, a couple .41 mags and some "hand rifle" Contender barrels.

Biggest one I've ever shot was a 454 Casul, did not care for that at all.
You're gonna love that XDm. I just fired mine 2 weeks ago and it is really accurate right out of the box. I had nice, tight groups and a big a---d grin on my face that lasted for quite a while.

Shoot Safe and Often

Thought this was funny and remarkably sensible where the big boomers are touted as "no big deal" to shoot.

I bought a .454 Ruger Alaskan along with about 300 rounds of some Freedom Arms .454 Casull ammo.

I took it for a test run and after shooting six rounds, promptly sold the rest of the ammo, never to shoot .454 ever again.

I've shot both the 454 and 500 S&W. The 454 was more unpleasant than the 500 S&W I shot. But I do like the boomers every now and then.

I want a 475/480 BFR. Yeah, I know, I have said this before and keep procrastinating. I shoot a SRH in 480 and it beats me around a good bit. But I want to try out a single action in that power area even though I know the 475 is a bit more than the 480 Ruger.

I use the 480 for deer hunting. I have complete confidence in the gun and caliber doing the job that needs done. But that doesn't mean that I go out and touch off 50 full power rounds from the beast in one sitting. If I shoot the 480 at the range, it is the last gun I shoot as my nerves are just about shot from the recoil and shooing anything else for at least an hour accurately is out of the question. So, why do I even bother? It's a fun diversion.

I do like the 41 mag. I haven't been shooting that caliber much for the last year of so. But I still like it a lot and it remains my favorite big bore handgun caliber.

I too like the .41 and while I have a 45 ACP revolver, the .41 is the most powerful revolver that I currently own. It's a Model 58 that I used during the last years of my police career using the 210 grain SWC police load. I still take it out and shoot from time to time and some day I want to drop a deer with it.
