beyond a 22

I've enjoyed reading this thread and finding that I'm not the only one that stays sharp and trains with .22's.

There are times when I shoot my .22 everyday for several weeks. CF's don't get to see that much action.

i always start with .22 to "warm up" at the range.

im always more accurate after doing so.

i also shoot the .22 while im waiting for my barrel to cool down on my centerfires.

catherine zeta jones and Salma Hayek

for me.. the .22 is like catherine zeta jones and Salma Hayek.....
It will always have my eyes, and a place in my hart...

How can you ever learn enough about shooting? I have both a Smith 22a and an NAA Pug in .22mag, love them both ... .22s are cheap to buy, ammo's cheap to buy and they are great guns both for your own learning and for teaching newcomers to the sport ...

I also use .22 to teach newbies,,,

I work at a University computer lab,,,
I get asked a lot to "take me shooting someday",,,
I'm not going to spend a lot of money on .38 special ammo.

When I take my friends out I lay out an assortment,,,
They get to choose from one of six .22 handguns,,,
And three .22 rifles for them to play with.

I just plop a bulk pack of .22 LR on the bench,,,
Set up the dueling tree as the target,,,
And we go to town and have fun.

Of course I haul out the S&W 629 and let em run a cylinder of .44 Mag,,,
But for the most part it's a cooler of food and soft drinks,,,
And a bulk pack or two of Federal .22 LR.

That's a great afternoon on a budget.

My favorite shooting still comes from the .22's. The other guns are all fun to own but it's the .22's that get shot again and again. Not just because they are cheap but also because they are so much fun. I still buy .22's as well, probably almost as often as larger calibers. My bolt action .22 Magnum is still my favorite rifle. :D

As much as I love both Salma Hayek and .22's, I still don't want a .22 in the heart...

When I can take my young sons shooting for hours on $20 in ammo its hard to think of a reason not to use our 22s. I tell my boys that the habits they learn with a 22 will be the ones they'll have when they're shooting centerfire rifles/handguns in the future. I often find that the most pure fun I have at the range is with my Browning Buckmark and Ruger 10/22.

Hey Marb4,,,

You and your sons need one of these,,,

A Dueling Tree

I am telling you my friend,,,
These things are a riot with a pair of .22's.

It's just as much fun with a pair of .22 single-shot rifles,,,
As it is with a pair of Ruger semi-auto pistols,,,
Just a bit slower is all.

Best $49.95 I've spent in a long time.
