Better to buy a lightly used Kahr rather than new?

That manual also gave a round number for the service life of the gun, I remember that, clearly, although I do not now recall if it was 4000 or 5000 rounds.

I've purchased eight Kahrs, read eight manuals and have to say I've never seen a sevice life proclaimed. In fact I don't think the phrase "service life" is even in the manual. Where did you get this?

I have yet to come across a mention of service life as well, and I have purchased two (one used, one new) Kahrs. I generally prefer to buy firearms NIB for added peace of mind with a warranty, but of course that varies from brand to brand. I had an issue with my Kahr CW45, and within a week I received a replacement part. I only had to send out an e-mail which included the serial number, so it may have been covered regardless of if I was the first owner or not (which I was in this case).

Buy new. The prices for polymer Kahrs have come way down online. Wait about a month or so and there should be some great black friday deals

BudsGuns has the PM9 Black with night sights for $718 and free shipping. Do you think any deals are going to beat that? I have never been successful with BF specials as I'm not willing to get up at 4AM unless there's a hunt involved.

I'm ready to push the button on Buds... :-)

My new KP380 took 600 rounds and a new recoil spring before it was happy.

Far too long. I'd have tried to "re-home" it, from the frustration.

may was well get a Kel Tec. ("Burn the heretic!")

Kahr recommends a 200 round break-in for most of their guns. OK, then wouldn't it make sense to buy a lightly used one rather than a new one?

There's no guarantee that it will have had any particular number of rounds through it, if bought used. Then you have the warranty issues.

200 rounds is 4 boxes of basic blasting ammo. What, $60 worth?

IMHO, buy new, unless you get a real good deal.

Congrats! I have a PM-9 and a CM-9 in my mix and I CCW both of these quite often. My Kahr 9's have been flawless hope your is too! Only thing I did to both of them was add a Hogue Handall Jr grip.

It worked for me. My CW9 was bought used and I've never had a problem with it.

That said, I didn't buy used it in an attempt to skip the break-in. In fact, I don't really know how much the previous owner shot it. I bought it used because I saved about $100 over what I would have paid new. :D

My CW40 ran ok from new but got noticeably smoother action-wise after about 300 rounds. Take your new gun and shoot it a bunch. Call it break in or practice or whatever you want. It will be worth it for peace of mind knowing that you and your gun are good to go. Enjoy and safe shooting.

Never have had a problem with my PM9 or the CW45.

A fellow on Kahrtalk who claims he's fired 32,000 rounds through his PM9 would take issue with the "4,000-5,000 round service life" for a Kahr.

Its possible my memory is playing tricks with me about the service life figure. I'll talk to the owner tomorrow and see if we can find the manual, to check.

He can "take issue" all he wants, but I don't see an issue (assuming I'm right, and there is a written number from the maker).

"Service life" is not a drop dead number. IIRC our 1911A1 service pistols were spec'd for a 5,000 round service life. Service life is the (approximate) number of rounds the gun should last before the failure of any major component. Not that a failure is going to happen at 5,001 rounds, or for that matter 6 or 7 thousand, or whatever.

Failure of something major before reaching the service life is unreasonable. Afterwards, and sometimes waaay afterwards, IF a failure happens, its not "unreasonably early". I don't see it meaning any more than that.
