Best Value in 1911

For the money and the features I don't think you can beat a Kimber Classic Stainless.
If you want something a bit more GI-looking, the Springfield MilSpec is the way to go.

I'd check out a 'lightly' used Springfield or Colt 1991A1. I've got a V-10 used for $395 (beat up slide and shot low) and Springfield put on a new front sight parkerized the slide for free...great customer service. Shoots easier than the Colt because of the ported barrel. Both shoot flawlessly.
The Colt Commander SS handles better than the Springfield and was in the $550 range. NIB. But I can't group it as tight as the Springfield. Practice, practice, practice.
Good luck on your selection.

Im not a pro on 1911 dogma but have shot a few, ok more than a few. The Daly's I have shot have been good guns. Springfields are up near the top and are priced better than most.
Rock Island 1911's are Armsco guns like the Daly's and appear to be solid...get great revues in the rags
Shoot well

My Springfield V-10 is a great shooting weapon.

Only 300 - 400 rounds, but all hit where I aimed em.

No jams.

No issues.

I think it shoots better than I do

C&R Sistema Colts.

A 1930s all steel colt for $300 - $400 for the pick of the litter!

Just upgrade the sights and live VERY happily after! :)

Let me chime in on the Charles Daly. Blades67 and Carbon_15 said it well. They also have a lifetime warranty. I have one and plan on getting more.

Best Value...

I generally try to stay out of these types of posts, mainly because "value" is a pretty subjective term. If you were just starting down the 1911 road, I'd add my endorsement to the Charles Daly. It's a "value priced" pistol that usually has a few bugs to be worked out. Working these bugs out will cause you to learn more about the 1911 than you could believe. That's good because as you progress you can make purchases and modifications based upon your experiences. OTOH, if you're an experienced shooter with some 1911 time under your belt, I really feel that Springfield Armory is the best bargain around.

Another vote for the Sistema Colt. If you can find one now. I got a Grade 1 for $279 with my C&R and it was like brand new w/all matching numbers. Very high quality manufacture, (yes, I've owned other 1911's).

theres Argentine Colts that are arsenal refinished for about $300.
I owned one of the Argentine's, and it was a real good shooter. The only thing it ever needed was the feed ramp polished and you just can't beat the price!

"All of them can get rid of the "cheese grater" grooves on the front of the slide, IMO. It's no place to put your hand and shouldn't be encouraged, not to mention it looks ugly. Fortunately, Colt and SA doesn't do that on all their models."

Hey Kimber, you listening ?

1911's

I agree you can't go wrong with a Kimber Classic Custom but I would highly recommend a Springfield Stainless Loaded as a great choice.I'd be happy to help you get one at an affordable price.
