best value for semi auto shotgun

i think i,m going to completly clean, lube and replace the gas o ring in my older 1100 and run it untill it jams just to see how many rounds it takes. i have ran it too a little over 600 rounds with out any jams with out any cleaning(the cleaning didn,t take 15 minutes) in the past. some years ago i bought a 1100 that was frozen shut with dirt-crud at a yard sale. it was a pityful sight, light rust and crap all over it ,like it sat in a open garage when not in use for years, after removing the wood(no easy task) and soaking it in a penatrating oil bath for a week or two,i go it apart and cleaned it up and put a new o-ring on it and put it togeather and it ran with out a hitch. it now is a farm owners truck shotgun. eastbank.

You have been given some good advice so far and I'd like to offer another option to consider.

Not sure where you are or what your plans are for this firearem but if you're interested in new for 350 to 400 in a 12 ga you might consider a Baikal 12 ga SA. After talking it over my son (16 yo) and I decided he might be ready to move up from a 20ga 870 youth to something bigger for doves & turkey this year. I researched the Baikal and although reports are they are a little crude and they don't seem to have a way to buy extra barrels I could detect the gun doesn't use an o ring like my Remington SA and they have a reputation for working. We rolled the dice. $374.

First trip to the range on clays my son roared through 4 boxes of Remington STS and then went on to shoot up all the assorted drips & draps of partial boxes of old shells I hauled out to shoot in the OU. About 3 more boxes. The OU never got out of the case and apparently you can't shoot a Baikal SA fast enough to make it catch on fire no matter how hot you think that barrel will get. He also did well on sporting clays with it and that was his first round of SCs.

What a shot that kid is with that thing!! We both like it.
I won't be able to hunt with him this year.

Chadio,

I once wanted to see how many rounds my "dirty" 391 would go before it needed cleaning.

I gave up at 1500 rounds, felt guilty and cleaned it.

There has got to be a reason you see 10 Beretta autoloaders for every other brand of autoloader on the skeet and sporting ranges.

The 1100 was king for a long time, but while still a great shotgun, it's day has passed.

i have four 1100,s and two 11-87,s and they shoot any thing i put in them. most of the jams i have seen at the trap, five stand and sporting clays have been due to bad reloads and believe me i have seen all brands suffer from this, some of the jams are from poor maintence(i never clean my gun,it don,t need it).i don,t think i would have any trouble with any brand of auto shotgun, i load with a mec 9000G and only load one load on it and it has worked in many different shotguns in all the clay games i shoot (i didn,t say i was a expert at them). as for cleaning i clean at 600 or so rounds and it takes all of 15-20 minutes and have no jams. with this kind of maintance all auto,s should work jam free. i have shot just about all the shotgun used in the clay games and after making sure they fit me,i could use them all.i do like a heavy gun for the clay games, but use a light 28-20 ga.for most hunting. eastbank.
