Best single stack 9mm?

The Kahr K9 in stainless is a pretty sweet single-stack 9MM. It may not be the lighest, but there's just something about that stainless steel feel in the hand and second to none quality. I've had mine for about a year, and haven't managed to jam it yet. The K9 also has the nicest DAO trigger of all the guns I own, and shooting it is very enjoyable.

I will give the Kahr 9 a second vote. I would also look at the S&W 3913. If you can find one look at a used Star BM. The Star BM is one of the most under rated pistols there is. The BM is no longer made but I have a lot of respect for mine. Regards, Richard

Walther P4 or P5. Also the P5 Compact and the L1A1. Too bad about the Sig-Sauer P225. That is one of my favorite Sig's.

I'm not even sure how many of the Walther's I mentioned you can own in the PRK. All are fine handguns.

You may also consider the PP Super, though not a full size 9mm cartridge. It uses 9mm Police or Ultra ammo which is a 9x18 tapered
case cartridge using a 95 or 100gr bullet. Another under-rated Walther handgun.

Best single stack 9mm

Walt Sherrill Thank you for the reply Walt. I agree with much of what you say. In a combat situation accuracy may not be of paramount importance all the time. I do own a CZ75 and they are great guns. As far as hammer bite. I guess I am just luckier than most people. Do to the fact that I have slime hands and fingers I have never in my life experienced it. I use my P210 for recreational shooting and for this senario I have found few guns can come close to it. Of course there are fantastically accurate cutom built High Powers, CZ's and 1911 pistols out there. They often cost a lot more that the Sig P210. I imagine your Sig P210 will sell very quickly. The new owner will undoubtably be one happy man. W.R.

Going to show my ignorance here

Why can't you get a P225 in CA? Did I miss something?

And if you can't get a P225, how can you get a P239?

P-225. And if I lived in a state that would not let me buy one, it would be a good idea to initiate a condition of anarchy...

Beretta has had the 92 Custom Carry II out for quite some time. Unfortunately you won't see it on the Beretta web site. It's an Inox Compact L Type M, single stack mag 8+1. Comes with Novak sights. Folks who have one love it. Mine was very accurate but I sold it to purchase a 92 Compact L Inox since the slightly wider grip was OK for me and it had 13 round mags available.

I like the P-5. Darned accurate too! Ejects left to clear easily if you have a problem. I've never had one with this gem!

For those that asked:

CA demands that guns that are sold in the state pass a safety test. Since SIG does not sell the 225 to the public anymore it did not submit one for testing and therefore it cannot be sold in CA except for a CA citizen to CA citizen private sale. The 239 was submitted for tested by SIG and of course it passed. It is therefore "safe" for me to own.

Oh well.

As many others have suggested, I say Kahr K9.

I didn't say P9 because concealed carry is all but extinct in Kali, plus I don't know if it's been submitted/passed yet.

But hey, as with any other firearm purchase, handle as many as you can and see which feels/shoots best for you.

I'm with Dan.

I'd get the P225 as my first choice as well. But I owned and carried a P239 and wouldn't hesistate to recommend that one to you as well.

1. Sig P210
2. Beretta 92 Custom Carry II

These two 9MM's cover everything needed in this caliber.

Re: the P-239.

I had one for a while. Fine gun, but the grip was small -- too small for my hand (even with Hogue grips to make it larger), I'd like more than 8 rounds, too, given a choice. It has a high bore axis, as well -- so you tend to notice recoil more...

P239? Na. Decent gun, admittedly. But bore axis is too high, giving too much muzzle rise. Has a very top-heavy feel. And it's pretty bulky, in particular the frame is tall between the top of the slide and the bottom of the frame where the trigger guard meets the frame. Compare the 239 to the K9. The K9 is much smaller and thinner. Easier to conceal. Yes, I do have a P239.
