I'm looking into purchasing a new pocket pistol and I have been looking at the S&W 380 bodyguard and a few of the other compact pistols. Anyone have what they believe to be the best. Let me know what ya think.

Go ahead and get the S&W 380 bodyguard. Nuff said.

I'm picking up my BG 380 this week. But I know there are other choices out there. Lot's of folks are talking Kel Tec, Kahr and Ruger, so why not go to their websites and see what they have?

I have small hands and actually held the BG before deciding to put it on layaway. Earlier models (serial number EEA) had quality issues but if you buy brand new you should be OK.

my EDC is now a BG380.......

500 rounds,4-5 different ammo brands no FTF,slide lock on final round
Its the 380 Glock should have made...

Best pocket auto pistol?

Rohrbaugh .380 works great for me and is extremely reliable and accurate for what it was designed to do. Can't even tell you are carrying it in your front pocket of your shorts... Awesome but a little pricey.

You're going to get a variety of answers as people see this thread, so I'll put in my $0.02: For my carry and shooting requirements, it's the Sig P238. Like a mini 1911 in. 380, it's great fun to shoot, just ask concealable in a pocket holster as the others, and a little heavier. Available in stainless. The best shooting pistol I have, I can make soda cans jump with it inside 25 yards every time. I have no idea how they got such a short barrel to be so accurate. :-)

I haven't shot the S&W Bodyguard so cannot offer an opinion on that choice. If you are going to stick with .380, I agree that the Sig 238 is a terrific little pistol. If you want something with a little more power than a .380, I am a big fan of the Kahr PM9 in 9 mm. It's a little bigger than the Sig but a high-quality pistol that still qualifies as a micro-compact in my book.

It might not be the best, but I love my Ruger LCP for pocket carry. So light and easy to carry (too easy sometimes). Around 300 rounds through the gun with 0 malfunctions. Strangely enough, the little blaster is super accurate out to 15 yards. Not quite as good at 25 yards, but not too bad. Scored a 292 out of a possible 300 on our PD qualification course.

The Kahr PM9 is a very good choice also, although it's a bit bulkier and heavier in the pocket.

Another vote for the SIG P238, for those willing to abide by a Gov't Model manual of arms. Mine is also both accurate (in a machine sense) and surprisingly easy to aim and fire. Much better than any other mouse gun I've owned or shot. Likewise, recoil is mild and slide operation is slick and easy; I attribute both of the latter to the locked breech design.

I carry the LCP, and I like it very much. It's nice looking, simple, reliable, and very accurate.

I can't speak to the BG as I have never fired one, but IMO it seems like it's trying to cram to many features onto a platform that isn't big enough. Plus it kind of looks like a tazer :)

A pocket gun should fit in a normal pocket - like the average pocket of an average person.

I think sometimes people view the phrase as a kind of classification of guns. There are very few pistols in 9mm that are true pocket pistols. The Rohrbaugh is definately a pocket pistol at 13.5 oz and 5.2" OAL.

The Rohrbaugh in .380 Auto is identical in size and weight to the R9. Except that it's less picky about ammo, and it's easier to fire, I don't see a big advantage in getting the Rohrbaugh 380 vs the R9

best and best for the cash are two different things. in my opinion, pocket carry should never be your primary carry, so it really isn't worth wasting a bunch of money on. saying that, i like my keltec pf9, but there are many other much better pocket pistols out there if you are willing to shell out the dough.

really, you want something as light and small as possible that you can still hold onto while you fire.
