Another poster suggested a Walther P88 and owning one I agree it is one hell of a pistol. I do not think I would opt for the P88 in this case. I am sure, with a $1,000 in hand, I would look for a good used Sig 210. There were a group of them that were brought in used and one of the buyers must be getting low on cash or otherwise want to sell one. Regards, Richard
Due to a range visit an hour ago I must change my previous suggestion from a BHP to a CZ75B. Dayum! What a gun! Hell, for a grand you can get two and some extra full capacity mags.
There're a whole bunch of boring suggestions IMO, all mentioned are in one of the current (yawn) gun rags. Since it's the 4th, why not picking one of the many guns with the American Eagle crests like an old Springfield 1911 vintage WW1 or an Eagle stamped Luger? Mauser made a run of American Eagles in the 70s or 80s that are a early Swiss design with grip safety. Accuracy of the fixed barrel Lugers are extraordinary, mines a 6in 9mm that's minute of bowling pin at 100yds. They were built in both 4 and 6 inch barrel lengths and chambered in 9mm or 30 Luger. I gave $700.00 for mine two weeks ago, there's just sumpin about the Lugers..Roy
Spend it all on East German Makarovs. Keep the best two or three according to your criteria of looks, accuracy, etc. Sell the rest and buy 9x18 ammo with the money while the ammo is good and cheap!
For carry? A Kimber Pro Carry and a Makarov. Money left over for Super Soaker.
For home defense? Springfield or Kimber, used CZ-75, Super Soaker. Money left over. Can get Kimber and CZ new for under $1000, but I'm not sure how many Super Soakers you can get.
you will get a lot of different opinion's on this subject; but for my money, my vote goes too the
Sig-Sauer P220A in .45ACP; for lot's of reasons
previously discussed.
