Best semi-auto for under $1,000

Okay.

I've been at this handgun thing for the best part of four years and have quite a few in my safe. I've got my carry guns, my favorite range guns, my hole guns, my wheel guns. I'm covered from 44magnum to .22LR. I've got a 1911, a couple tactical tupperware guns in flavors from Glock to HK, Sigs of all sizes, a Beretta, and a Walther or two.

Now I've got a nice dilemna. I've got a bonus check coming in that will net me over a thousand bucks and I've got nothing better to spend it on than a new pistol.

This time I'm not buying to fill a hole in my repertoire... I've got every caliber covered from .45auto down and not looking to buy a handgun to go hunting with--that's what my rifle collection is for.

I want to buy the BEST handgun that I can for a $1,000.

What would you buy in that situation? Name your poison, I'm open for suggestions. The money's burning a hole in my pocket and I can't make up my mind...

How about a nice refurbished H&K P7M8 or P7PSP for $750-800? And an EG makarov with the remainder? Two great guns.

My favorite pistol is HkP7M8, but since technically it costs more then $1000 (MSRP $1200), it does not fit the category.
Well, its a toss between Sig P229 (you get 3 calibres in one pistol) and CZ75 (yes, an exellent pistol in all regards).
The "best pistol" is a vague discription, because it depends on what is proposed use. Target? Defence? Service weapon? My choice of weapon whould depend on the task.

CZ75b 25 year anniversary. Going price is around $600.00. That leaves enough left over to get a regular CZ7b w/polymer finish to use as a shooter.

Best for what?

Concealed carry, serious target (bullseye) shooting, home defense, fun at the range, cowboy action shooting, around the farm, etc.?

There are a lot of quality guns available for under $1,000 -- especially if you consider used weapons.

Everyone responding seems to have a different "target" in mind when they make their suggestion.

Personally, I'd probably go with one of top-of-the line CZs, or a tuned Browning HP, or a Kimber .45; they're all versatile enough to do anything but, perhaps, serious target shooting.

Some o' them high-capacity di-hydrogen monoxide handguns are looking pretty sharp.

Another vote for the BHP. You can get fancier. You can't get better.

Those are all nice guns. But you aren't done collecting until you have an HK P9S Target in 45. I don't have one yet (used to have one in 9), but I don't claim to have a completed pistol collection.

Of course, you could also get a Ruger Mk II and a matching "can." You'd still have enough left over to pay for the tax stamp. If you think it would cost more than $1000, email me and I'll get you the info for the shop who makes and sells them.

If I had that cash I'd go right for a HK P7M8! I shot the M13 and it blew me away, so I'm sure the M8 is just as good. Also the CZ-75 is hard to beat... But you might wanna go for a 1911 if you have the desire to do so. I just saw a minty series 80 Gold Cup for $775 yesterday...

Springfield Armory V-16 Long Slide .45 Super.

A couple stainless eight round mags and 200 rounds of Triton's 450 SMC ammo.

You'll not regret it.

H&K P7M8 if you don't already have one, especially since you're getting this for fun. Definitely one for anybody's collection.

Otherwise, how about a Springfield .45 Longslide in SS? Just for fun!
