I have had Bushnell Banners, Barskas, Simmons and Tasco mounted and, unless you want to spend at least $300, the Mueller APV is the best buy for clarity, and brightness.
I have and like the Banner. You might want to look for a shotgun/muzzleloader version of whatever your poison since they usually have the parallax dialed down to 50-75 yards instead of 100-150 yards for the typical rifle scope.
It depends on what your priorities are but in that pricerange, a Nikon Prostaff is hard to beat. I have a 6-24 Tasco with AO and mildot reticle that I payed less than $70 for a few years ago. I have been very pleased with it and the optics are very good considering what I paid. I checked out several different models offering quite a bit of magnification, all of which were more expensive and suprisingly, the Tasco was brighter. It is not a high end scope but it serves it's purpose well.
Stay away from Barska and Osprey. Seriously. This is not me bashing cheap scopes, as I've had Simmons and BSAs I've actually been happy with. Barska and Osprey are junk though.
Just don't buy a scope that either isn't parallax adjustable, or a non-adjustable scope with the parallax adjusted for 100 or 150 yards. It won't be accurate at 50 yards or less, and may not even focus well at that distance.
I bought a Mueller APV 4.5-14 AO from SWFA, I believe. It's got excellent optics!!! Price is right and the adjustments work great. I like it better than my Monarch.
