Looking for something "cheap" to replace the "really cheap" one I have on my 10-22.
Want to stay in the 40mm bell range so don't have to worry about my stock height.

1. Simmons 44 mag 6-21X44 with target turrets. Side Parallax
2. Barska 3.5-10X40 (30 mm tube) Side Parallax
3. Osprey 2.5-10X40 (30 mm tube) Side Parallax
4. Bushnell Banner 6-24X40 Parallex at front bell
5. BSA 6-24 X 40 Side Parallax

Thanks

For a .22 i think any of those will work. Id also look into redfield revolution or a nikon prostaff. Cabelas had prostaffs on sale for $100 not too long ago, they may still be on sale.

+1 for the Prostaff or Redfield. Much better quality and clearer than the ones you have listed there.

You may want to look at a fixed power Weaver, too.

One of the most clear I've used is the Mueller APV 4x14-44, about $129, if you want less power the Redfield is excellent. I have the Mueller on my modified 10/22 and it performs excellent at 25-50 and 100 yards.

My favorite all around "cheap scope", is the Bushnell Banner 3x9. I kind of like having the low 3x for some of the close shots that ya take with a .22, and 9x is plenty for 100+ yards. I've got three of these scopes now, and have never had a problem --- ever.

I just put the 6x18 Banner on my .222, and like it also, but there is a lot of adjustments to mess with between power, parallax, and eyepiece. And on top of it, I've got to try to look through the right part of my bifocals. jd

I was going to mention the nitrex scopes but was beat to it lol. They are way better than anything else listed above and they are normaly twice the price except like stated above natchez has them on clearance right now. I would jump on that. They are rebadged weaver grand slam and super slam models. Awesome scopes. If you dont go that route I like the weaver 44/40 series 3x9x40mm you can get for $150. It's similar to the nikon prostaff in cost and clarity but its brighter in comparison. For that price range I think its one of the best choices unless you find a $300-400 dollar scope on clearance like the nitrex are right now.

'm going to give the Vortex Crossfire a shot on my .270 win. I called the company and talked with a tech, he said it should perform, and if not send it back for a refund. I call that CS not BS!!!;)

No offense, but most of the ones you have listed aren't fit for a air rifle...

My vote is for the Nikon Prostaff you will be hard pressed to find a better optic for the same or less money...:)

What is "cheap" to you? What budget do you have in mind?

I have a 3-9x40 Nikon Prostaff I'm wanting to sell if that interests you.
That being said, I could probably make other recommendations if I knew your price range.

In the 40mm family, in your price range, and since its a .22LR you dont really need a 100yrd parallax... I would suggest http://www.opticsplanet.net/weaver-40-44-3-9-x-40-50-yd-parallax-rifle-scope.html

Out of those listed, I've had great luck with my Bushnell Banner. It is very clear and pulls in a ton of light and holds zero very well.

I'd also check out Nikon and see what a prostaff is going for these days.

The Mueller APV is the best choice for the 10/22 I have found.

I own and have owned a wide variety of scopes,Nikon Monarch, Redfield, Burris, Bushnell, and the Mueller APV glass has more edge to edge clarity then the ones I've listed now certainly I do not believe the Mueller would take the abuse of perhaps a Monarch however it has a lifetime warranty and I tend to treat my scopes as precision instruments, in other words I baby them so if you hunt on a mountain side falling a lot pick the more expensive brand but if a target shooter like me the Mueller apv on a 10/22 is perfect.
