I just picked up my first Ruger 10/22 and im looking for some high capacity magazines. I have always wanted a 50 round drum magazine, but never was really sold on their reliability. Is there any drum mags that actualy are built well and feed flawlessly? Also what are the best choices for the 25-30 round magazines?

sorry if this topic has been covered before, i couldn't find much about it through the search

I'm not aware of any good drum magazines. Also, double-stack mags don't seem very reliable. Ruger makes the BX-25 mag (25 rounds) and those are supposed to function well. I'm thinking its maybe volquartsen that makes aluminum 25-round mags that are supposed to be good. Tactical innovations makes another 25-rounder (TI25) that is good.

I have a pair of the Butler Creek 25s. They work well and are solidly built but I don't much care for the rattle. Does the BX-25 rattle?

Looks cool and/or works great !!!

Does the BX-25 rattle?
Taking a critical view; yes, you could say they rattle, some. ....

Are you primarily looking for looks as opposed to function?
Seeing the new Ruger BX-25 in action, they seem to work well. Cost running around $24.00 each. .... :)

Be Safe !!!

No problems with any Butler Creek mags, but I trust the steel lip mags a lot more than the plastic lip ones. Only a few dollars more and worth the difference to me.

Cleaning 22 Mags

Both Tactical Innovations mags and the new BX-25 by Ruger can be taken apart to clean. Not so of the Butler Creek mags. I've cleaned my Tactical Innovations mags a few times, they needed it.

no i could care less about looks, all i want is it to function correctly. I have heard that the Tactical Inc 25 round mags were good. Has anyone had any experience with any of the drum mags?

From what i read Promag is the worst drum to get and the Black Dog drum seems to be the most popular and has better reviews

As far as the Tactical Inc mags, i see they have a polymer mag and a metal magazine in the same design (steel maybe? i dont remember) Which one is the better choice or do they both function the same

$24.95 at my local gun shop + 6% PA sales tax. Or I've seen them on sale, online for around $20 but if you want to spend enough for free shipping you'll probably have to tack it onto a larger order.

I picked up 2 Ruger BX-25 mags off Midway for $17 each over the holidays. Both of them have performed pretty much flawlessly, have had 2 stovepipes in about 1000 rounds now through them and both were when I was bump firing the gun so it was extreme rapid fire. Only complaint is they fit pretty loose in the mag well, nothing that has affected performance just an annoyance. Couple wrap around of electrical tape makes them sit more snug.

Is there actually enough recoil with the .22 to bump fire it? I was actually thinking about it after i bought it, but i figured there wouldnt be enough to do it. Plus the factory trigger doesn't seem to reset fast enough. When i tried firing it a fast as i could, after the first couple rounds, the trigger couldn't keep up so i had to slow down
